‘Tough To Turn Off the Iga Faucet’ – Roddick Sends Iga Świątek Warning Ahead of US Open

Andy Roddick reveals what could make Iga Świątek a US Open favorite, warning the WTA Tour about her hard-court dominance.

Iga Świątek is officially back to her winning ways after capturing the Canadian Open title in Toronto, with her early 2026 struggles now a distant memory. The defending Cincinnati Open champion and seventh seed is keeping up with that winning momentum, with her 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 comeback victory over Maria Sakkari on Monday. As she prepares to face Diane Parry in the next round, former world No. 1 Andy Roddick has issued a warning to the rest of the WTA Tour.

Andy Roddick Reveals What Could Make Iga Swiatek a US Open Favorite After Cincinnati

The six-time Grand Slam champion had a tough start to 2026, with several early exits. In April, she ended her partnership with coach Wim Fissette and hired Rafael Nadal’s former coach, Francisco Roig.

Her best result before Toronto was reaching the semifinals of the Italian Open, but during the North American hard-court swing, her game finally came together as she beat World No. 2 Elena Rybakina in straight sets in the final.

Świątek has now won all five major North American titles in women’s tennis, having claimed Indian Wells in 2022 and 2024, the Miami Open in 2022, the Cincinnati Open in 2025, the US Open in 2022, and the Canadian Open in 2026. At 25, she became the youngest woman to complete the set.

With the victory, Świątek also claimed her 12th career WTA 1000 title, breaking a tie with World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka (11 titles) for the second-most WTA 1000 crowns since the format started in 2009. Many analysts felt that “Vintage Iga” was back, since she has accomplished so much already.

Roddick asked on his podcast, “Served with Andy Roddick,” “When she gets momentum, is there a better frontrunner in women’s tennis?”

“When she gets on the front foot and starts winning matches two and one, and 0 and two, and two and three in the finals, she has that gear where, when all is right, and I think at this point in your career, it’s more mental than physical,” Roddick explained.

As Świątek looks ahead to the last Grand Slam of the year in New York, Roddick agreed with Jon Wertheim on the podcast that her recent form makes her one of the favorites. Roddick added that if she has a strong run in Cincinnati, “it’s tough to turn off the Iga faucet once it gets flowing.”

Świątek will next face No. 66-ranked Diane Parry, who defeated fellow Frenchwoman Lois Boisson 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the third round.
