Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream hosted Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever on Sunday. Reese had a difficult night, even though the Dream forward still finished with her 23rd double-double of the season.
Her struggles were visible early against Clark and the Fever, and Reese openly admitted as much during a live ESPN halftime interview.
However, after an uncensored expletive slipped into her answer, social media users quickly turned their attention toward whether the WNBA should punish her.

Reese managed only 7 points on 3-of-10 shooting through the first two quarters, while adding 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 turnovers. Frustrated with her performance, she did not hold back when sideline reporter Holly Rowe asked about her rough start at halftime.
“Yeah, I mean, I was playing like (expletive) in the beginning,” Reese said, drawing a laugh from Rowe.
“But it’s a game of runs, you gotta put that in your back pocket, just because you know that you have teammates that have your back. Allisha Gray, Madina Okot, Rhyne Howard, they’re carrying us right now. So just playing together, playing collectively and letting our defense speak for itself.”

“I was playing like shit.”

The comment was not censored on ESPN, and that quickly caught the attention of viewers online.
One X user questioned ESPN’s decision, writing, “How are they gonna allow her to curse on TV? @espn They are kids watching this. Fine her.”
Another user, @Kevinohsavage, argued that Reese should face consequences, saying, “No cussing fine, no betting on the game fine or suspension. Privilege!”

A separate user was even more direct, calling for fine: “I hope they fine her for this seriously.”

The calls came during a game that already had plenty of tension between Reese and Clark. Early in the first quarter, the two battled for a rebound after a Rhyne Howard miss, with Reese appearing to make contact around Clark’s neck as they fought for position.
The moment drew attention online and added another flashpoint to a game featuring two of the WNBA’s most recognizable stars.

Reese’s second half did not go much more smoothly than her first. She eventually found her offense but finished just 5-for-16 from the field, with 15 points, 14 rebounds, and 6 assists. She also committed 4 turnovers and finished with 5 fouls.
Her most costly miss came at the end of regulation, with the score tied 81-81. Howard missed a 3-pointer with 5.5 seconds left. Reese grabbed the offensive rebound and went for the basket. But her layup attempt failed, sending the game to overtime.

Atlanta could not recover from there.
Allisha Gray kept the Dream competitive with a 32-point outburst, but Indiana pulled away for a 95-91 victory behind 26 points from Clark, along with 20-point efforts from both Kelsey Mitchell and Makayla Timpson.
The win gave the Fever their fourth straight victory and snapped Atlanta’s two-game winning streak.
For Reese, it was a night when the numbers still showed her value on the glass and as a passer, but the late-game layup miss, shooting struggles, and live-TV language gave critics plenty to discuss.
