Los Angeles Rams’ first-round draft pick quarterback Ty Simpson went out on Saturday against the Kansas City Chiefs in an NFL preseason game and put up some solid numbers.
Simpson, who was the No. 13 overall pick out of Alabama, received a lot of high praise from those watching the game, which the Rams won 20-12. It looks like a bunch of Rams onlookers and NFL observers were happy with Simpson’s play for Rams head coach Sean McVay.

During his time on the field, Simpson went 21-of-25 passing for 190 yards, 2 touchdowns, and no interceptions. He averaged 7.6 yards per pass and had a passer rating of 125.0.
SCOUTD’s account on X broke down what Simpson’s numbers were after 2 drives leading the Rams’ offense. “#Ty Simpson through 2 drives: 5/6, 48 Yards Passing, 100.00 Passer Rating. Not a bad start,” the account posted.

Holden Cantor, a Rams content creator, posted a video and these words about Simpson’s effort. “Stetson Bennett watching Ty Simpson” indicating how the rookie could dethrone Bennett from the QB2 spot.

Later on, Cantor also posted, “Ty Simpson is COOKIN”.
‘Rams Bros’ account on X shared thoughts after seeing Simpson’s first NFL action and wrote, “Ty Simpson looks comfortable. Scheelhaase is definitely trying to get him out of the pocket and throwing on the run. In today’s game, I’m always impressed by a QB who can get under center confidently and turn his back to the defense in the play action game. It’s a lost art.”

Blaine Grisak, lead publisher of Rams On SI, noticed how Simpson looked in running the team’s offense on Saturday.
Grisak wrote, “It’s hard to know what the coaches are seeing in practice. Today is a very small sample size… but Ty Simpson has looked so comfortable and remained efficient in the Rams’ offense. Have to wonder if he surpasses Bennett on the depth chart by the end of the preseason.”

Former NFL quarterback and current ESPN NFL analyst Chase Daniel liked what he saw from the rookie on Saturday. Daniel wrote, “21/25 for 190 yards & 2 TD’s Doesn’t look like a rookie”.

Simpson might have looked like a star on Saturday, but McVay and the Rams are still going to lean on veteran Matthew Stafford to take the main snaps this season.
