After a challenging run to the semifinals at Wimbledon, where he ultimately fell to Jannik Sinner, 39-year-old Novak Djokovic is back for the hard-court swing. As the 24-time Grand Slam champion is currently in Ohio, gearing up to compete at the 2026 Cincinnati Masters 1000, his wife, Jelena, just offered fans a different, romantic perspective of the legend, likening him to some of literature’s beloved male leads.

On the court, the public sees the Serb as a tactical genius with an uncompromising competitive drive. But for Jelena, who has been his partner for over two decades now, it’s different.
In an Instagram post, she shared a few photos of them from the premiere of Djokovic’s documentary “Novak Djokovic: The Wolf in Winter” and added a long, romantic caption.
“If I were ever to show my perspective of Novak, of the man he is to me, I’d probably have to borrow from the men I’ve loved in books (because Novak is a very complex character of course 😜,” Jelena wrote.
The characters she mentioned to liken the former World No. 1 to were Mr. Darcy from “Pride and Prejudice,” Edward Cullen from the “Twilight” saga, Alexander Barrington from “The Bronze Horseman,” and Rowan Whitethorn from “Throne of Glass.”
Although they are different, fictional men with entirely different backstories, Jelena added that something in each of them reminds her of Novak.
Jelena described him in terms of his strength and stubbornness and concluded by adding that while the world has its own version of him, she gets to know and love the person he truly is.

Novak and Jelena met in high school and began dating in 2005, spending eight years together before getting engaged in 2013. They tied the knot in July 2014 and welcomed their son Stefan later that year, followed by their daughter Tara in 2017.
Djokovic’s upcoming documentary premiered in New York on Thursday. The film offers an inside look at his journey from childhood to becoming a 101-time tour-level champion, featuring interviews with Rafael Nadal, Andre Agassi, and others. It will premiere on Prime Video on August 20.
On the tennis front, Cincinnati marks his return to the event he has previously conquered three times, as a key to test his physical readiness before heading to New York to hunt for a historic 25th major title at the US Open.
