DJ Moore Gives Candid Take on Caleb Williams After Bears Exit

Former Bears wide receiver Moore offered a brief assessment of Williams during an appearance on the NFL Network. Moore was asked about several quarterbacks he has played with, including Cam Newton, Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, and Williams.

Moore gave strong praise to the veteran quarterbacks before taking a more reserved approach with Williams. His initial response was simple: “He’s getting there.” When asked to elaborate, Moore added, “He’s still growing.”

The answer drew attention because of the different tone compared with his comments about his other former quarterbacks. Still, Moore did not dismiss Williams’ potential. He later added, “He’s an automatic superstar now. Madden (NFL 27) cover. He’s on the up.”

Moore acknowledged Williams’ status and trajectory while also pointing to the development that remains ahead for the 2024 No. 1 overall pick. The Bears star ranked 20th on PFN NFL QB Impact Rankings, so the path ahead is going to be tough.

The reaction from the NFL community has centered on whether Moore’s short answer highlighted lingering tension between the two players.

Polymarket Football highlighted the contrast on X, asking, “Did him and Caleb have beef?” The post compared Moore’s descriptions of his former quarterbacks and noted his shorter response regarding Williams.

Sadeek Creates, a sports commentator, offered a different reading of the exchange. He wrote, “Easy to watch this & speculate beef. I’m more so taking it at face value, DJ not wrong.” He added that Williams has shown he can deliver in big moments but still needs to improve in certain areas.

Another X user, Black Ditka, kept his response even shorter: “Business is business.” Mr. RC also pushed back on the idea of a clear feud, writing, “I wouldn’t say they had beef, but it was a somewhat lukewarm response. Maybe he was upset that he got traded.”

Separately, another account wrote, “He always hated Caleb lol,” adding to the speculations about their relationship.

The speculation, though, has some history behind it.

Williams and Moore shared several standout moments during their season together, including a 46-yard overtime touchdown against the Green Bay Packers. Their partnership also ended in controversy after a playoff interception against the Los Angeles Rams, which followed a miscommunication on a deep route.

Chicago has since moved forward with Williams as its quarterback and reshaped his supporting cast. Moore was traded to Buffalo, where he will reunite with Joe Brady and become a downfield option for Josh Allen.
