‘Can’t See Their Own Hypocrisy’ — WNBA Broadcast Urging ‘Focus on Basketball’ Over DiJonai Carrington, Stephanie White Debate Sparks Fury

Some fans believe the WNBA media is being hypocritical instead of tackling the DiJonai Carrington and Stephanie White debate.

The Indiana Fever have once again become the center of the basketball universe. But this time around, the focus is on their head coach, with a ton of debate centered on Stephanie White and DiJonai Carrington.

As the media tries to bring the topic back to the basketball on display on the court, some sections of the fan base believe they are being hypocritical with their messaging.

Fans Remain Focused on Stephanie White and DiJonai Carrington

The entire situation stemmed from a brutal foul on the Fever star by Carrington. Cunningham believed that it was an intentional act by the Chicago Sky star, but her coach publicly disagreed with that assumption.

That has sparked a ton of controversy, with some even alleging that White was going against her players and not fully supporting them. ESPN, ahead of the game between the New York Liberty and Indiana, tried to bring the conversation back to the actual game.

Andraya Carter was the first to speak out. “I look forward to the day, like Steph White said, that this is a space where basketball fans come to pick apart the game and the performances and come to celebrate the talent that we have. And where people are judged based on their basketball thoughts and what happens on the court, and their character is not associated with those things.”

However, one fan was incensed by her stand. He believed the situation reeked of hypocrisy as he wrote, “The WNBA Countdown panel just lectured the fans for focusing on the actions of DiJonai Carrington and Stephanie White, instead of focusing on basketball. Same people who blew up the story about Sophie Cunningham’s comments on men in women’s sports & Caitlin Clark not denouncing online trolls. We aren’t falling for the gaslighting.”

Others followed suit behind him, with one fan trying to point out the irony by claiming, “Also, the same panel who made it their topic of conversation again tonight…” Another fan joked, “The agenda crew from the top down doesn’t know what to do.”

One fan took offense to their coverage, claiming, “They give entirely too much time to what’s going on online,” while some even made it a culture war, writing, “They can’t see their own hypocrisy. The league has had a woke progressive agenda for decades and forgot about basketball. It’s coming to a head now and will right itself after this season.”

For some, though, the coverage had become a bit too much to bear. As a result, they were ready to quit on the WNBA as a whole, as they professed, “Just stop watching wnba I did my life is better lol I got Into it for Caitlin and Sophie, now it’s dumb and moronic to me it was bad basketball before, now it’s bad people, bad officiating, coaching lol just woke people, bye.”

It remains to be seen whether the narrative’s focus shifts over the coming weeks. But at least for the time being, it looks like the spotlight will remain on White, whose job is being called into question over her remarks.
