The Colorado Buffaloes remain one of the few college football programs that capture national attention year-round. Much of that spotlight centers on head coach Deion Sanders and his celebrity status as a Pro Football Hall of Famer.
While Sanders recently celebrated his 59th birthday, his girlfriend, Emmy Award-winning actress Karrueche Tran, made sure to share a behind-the-scenes look at his special day.
Deion Sanders Gets a Special Birthday Cake
Sanders’ girlfriend went to Instagram to show the effort she put into making a cake for Sanders’ birthday. She posted (the IG story is now no longer available) “I’m a day late, but I spent 5 hours in the kitchen for my man’s birthday yesterday. I was whooped, but it was all worth it.”
While fans rarely catch glimpses into Sanders’ personal life, the personal celebration offered a brief moment of downtime before the fall camp takeover. Colorado is coming off an abysmal season where they went 3-9. Sanders is hoping for a bounce-back season, and it will take a lot to build an almost brand-new team through the transfer portal.
According to Yahoo Sports, Colorado brought in 43 new players and saw 64 leave via the portal. Sanders and his staff will have their work cut out for them, ensuring this new team is on the same page heading into Week 1.
Many eyes will be on Colorado’s quarterback Julian Lewis. He appeared in four games and made two starts for the Buffaloes last season, throwing for 589 yards and four touchdowns without an interception while completing 55.3% of his passes.
This team will likely only be as good as the play of its quarterback, and Lewis will have a lot of pressure on his shoulders.
The ideal present Sanders could receive for his birthday is another winning season. In his first three years at Colorado, he posted a 16-21 record, with only one winning season, the 9-4 run in 2024.
It wouldn’t be far-fetched to suggest Colorado could look to move on if Sanders endures another losing season. Coach Prime might have an edge in recruiting, being one of the greatest NFL players of all time. But if the results do not get better on the field, this may be the last birthday Sanders celebrates as the Colorado head coach.
Given his legendary recruiting profile, expectations remain high at Colorado. However, as the 2026 season nears, getting on-field results will be crucial to maintaining momentum in Boulder.
