Adam Vinatieri is back in the spotlight again. Over the weekend Vinatieri, along with four other prominent NFL players, was inducted into the Hall of Fame. During the ceremony, Drew Brees, Roger Craig, Larry Fitzgerald and Luke Kuechly all gave emotionally driven speeches that were heartfelt and inspiring.
However, Vinatieri perplexingly took the opportunity to fire shots at Bill Belichick and Tom Brady. After receiving backlash for his speech, Vinatieri is now taking a mulligan on his comments.
Patriots Legend Adam Vinatieri Issues Public Apology
On Monday, the four-time Super Bowl champion appeared as a guest on the Dan Patrick Show. During the interview, Vinatieri apologized for his comments about Belichick and Brady, citing that he did not mean for his speech to offend anyone or be deemed inappropriate.
The former Patriots kicker then doubled down and insisted that his jabs at the coaches and players were merely jokes, only to be taken lightly. Vinatieri added that he wanted to make the speech entertaining and heartfelt but it didn’t land the way he had hoped.

The host of the show, Dan Patrick, quickly interrupted Vinatieri to let him know that his apology was not necessary.
Vinatieri Goes Viral
Adam Vinatieri’s apology comes shortly after his Hall of Fame Speech over the weekend. During his now-viral speech, Vinatieri first thanked Belichick before making a slick comment regarding Belichick’s girlfriend.

“Unfortunately, Bill couldn’t make it here today,” he continued. “There’s a lot going on at UNC right now. He may be on a recruiting trip right now looking for the next Lawrence Taylor. I thought it was because training camp already started. But in truth, it’s because he’s judging his girlfriend’s cheerleading competition.”

He went on to say that he believes Belichick is the best coach of all time.
Vinatieri then shifted his attention to his former teammate and seven-time Super Bowl champion, Tom Brady. In his speech, Vinatieri said he would joke about Brady but he would refrain out of fear of getting slapped like Logan Paul last month.
Outside of his former coach and teammates, Vinatieri also decided to call out fellow Hall of Famer, Peyton Manning, for his large forehead.
Hall of Fame Backlash
While neither Belichick nor Brady have responded to Vinatieri’s comments, some Hall of Famers took the liberty to share their thoughts on the speech. Hall of Fame defensive tackle Warren Sapp expressed his concern for the former kicker, stating that Vinatieri is going to “burn every bridge.”
While Sapp seemed worried, Manning himself was not bothered at all by Vinatieri’s jabs.
According to USA Today, the former quarterback was seen taking pictures and hanging out with Vinatieri’s family after the ceremony.
With that being said, it seems as though the speech is water under the bridge.
Adam Vinatieri had an incredible NFL career with four Super Bowl wins, while holding the NFL records for most points scored (2,673), most consecutive field goals made (44), most career field goals made (599) and most career overtime field goals (11).
