The Buffalo Bills hosted their fans for the team’s “Blue and Red” practice at their new Highmark Stadium on Saturday. The Bills’ new stadium was built by architectural firm “Populous” for a reported cost of $2.2 billion, higher than the estimated $1.4 billion touted at the beginning of the project.
NFL Fans Didn’t Like the New Buffalo Bills Stadium
Fans on X who attended or watched the “Blue and Red” practice at Highmark Stadium from home were widely critical of the obstructed field view in some seats.
Barstool Sports’ Jack Mac compared it to the New York Giants and New York Jets’ MetLife Stadium.

A user on X “Keg” ranked Highmark Stadium one of the worst stadiums ever built. He said, “So not hating even a little bit. This is one of the worst stadiums ever built in history. Genuinely, the Romans figured this out thousands of years ago.”

“Arrowhead Live” warned the Kansas City Chiefs against making the same mistakes in their new stadium. The account wrote, “This is bad, don’t do this Chiefs.”
An account named “Buffalo Weather” blasted the architectural firm that was responsible for the Highmark Stadium design.

Podcast host Mike Bell blasted the stadium’s design flaws and the team’s sales teams for hiding the obstruction issue from fans. He said, “With all the technology available to the architects/designers this really is inexcusable. And reportedly the sales team was vague about “partially obstructed” views.”

Of the originally touted budget, $850 million was financed with taxpayer funds, the second-highest tax-funded outlay of any NFL stadium, behind only the Tennessee Titans’ $1.26 billion public subsidy for their Nashville stadium. Highmark Stadium can accommodate 60,108 fans, over 10,000 fewer than the Bills’ former stadium and the lowest capacity of the league’s stadiums.
The AFC East team will play at Highmark Stadium for the first time in a preseason game against the Carolina Panthers on August 15. Their first competitive game at the stadium will be against the Detroit Lions on September 17.
This week, New York State officially took ownership of Highmark Stadium from Erie County after the Bills signed a 30-year lease to play there.
