For more than nine years, Aaron Rodgers struggled to stay close to his family. However, that changed in recent months when the NFL star reunited with his parents in April during his Hall of Fame induction at his former high school in Chico, California.
Since then, Rodgers and his family have continued rebuilding their bond. However, the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback recently explained how public discussion around their relationship affected that process.
Aaron Rodgers Wants to Keep His Relationship with Family Private
Two weeks ago, Rodgers shared a carousel on Instagram featuring his mother, Darla, his father, Ed, and his older brother, Luke. Soon after, social media started revisiting their estranged relationship.
Owing to that reaction, Rodgers revealed that he wants to keep his private life away from social media going forward.
“There’s been a narrative out there,” he told USA Today Sports in an interview. “There’s not been a lot of information that’s truthful about it. And I think that the personal life should stay personal and private.”
Still, Rodgers felt that sharing those pictures served a purpose. He wanted to give people one genuine glimpse into a relationship that had drawn years of outside attention.
“But I feel like it was part of the full-circle moment to just one time post something and never again. So that narrative can finally be put to rest,” he added.
During a sit-down interview with NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt at Steelers training camp on Saturday, Rodgers offered more context on his recent reconciliation.

“There’s been a narrative that’s gone on for too long, that I kind of wanted to shut down,” Rodgers added. “It’s been really beautiful to reconnect with them. All of them. I got to spend a long weekend recently; those pictures are from Nashville. My parents, my brother and his sweet wife, and their two incredible kids. I got to be an uncle. It’s really special.”
The veteran quarterback seems more at peace with his personal life. He admitted he is happy to be reunited and credited his wife, Brittani, with helping him see the situation differently.
“There’s been a lot of conversation about it outside of my own conversations for so many years,” Rodgers said.
“You know, a big part of it was getting married. Having those conversations with my wife, it allowed me to kind of open up to the possibility of coming together. It’s been a couple-year process now. The conversations with them. You know, I’ve been very closed off about that part of my life, and I want to keep it that way.”
Still, Rodgers made it clear that his wife never pressured him into making the move. Instead, her support gave him confidence throughout the process. He said he missed those relationships and feels grateful that they have been restored.
Rodgers has never revealed exactly what caused the initial family divide, and that may never change. For now, though, the veteran quarterback appears focused on what he has regained rather than what happened before.
