DiJonai Carrington Sends 3-Word Message As USWNT Legend Megan Rapinoe Unloads on Sophie Cunningham, Riley Gaines

DiJonai Carrington reacts to Megan Rapinoe’s criticism of Sophie Cunningham and Riley Gaines with a three-word message.

The debate around Sophie Cunningham’s views on transgender athletes has taken another turn after the USWNT Legend, Megan Rapinoe, spoke out against the Indiana Fever guard and her support from Riley Gaines.

DiJonai Carrington Reacts to Megan Rapinoe’s Sophie Cunningham Comments

The former U.S. soccer star strongly criticized Cunningham’s stance and questioned her public association with Gaines.

Chicago Sky’s DiJonai Carrington has now entered the conversation, leaving a short three-word response under Rapinoe’s Instagram video.

Carrington did not write a long response. Instead, she kept it simple.

“Clock it, Megan.”

Carrington’s comment appeared under Rapinoe’s Instagram video from Rapinoe’s “Why Are You Like This” show, where the former midfielder discussed the growing controversy around Cunningham and Gaines.

The debate began after Cunningham made her views clear on transgender athletes competing in women’s sports during an interview with ESPN.

The Fever guard’s comments have drawn criticism from several people around the WNBA.

Most prominently, Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve has pushed back against Cunningham’s position, stressing the importance of inclusion.

Reeve even wore a “Trans Kids Belong” shirt during the highly anticipated Fever-Lynx matchup on Sunday, Aug. 2.

The controversy grew even more during the game. Gaines, one of the most vocal critics of transgender participation in women’s sports, attended the game to support Cunningham. Jennifer Sey, the XX-XY Athletics founder and former Levi’s executive, also joined the show of support outside Target Center.

After the game, Cunningham was seen with Gaines and Sey while holding a sign that thanked her for standing up for girls.

That moment became a major part of Rapinoe’s criticism. She questioned what Cunningham’s public support for Gaines said about her views.

Rapinoe also criticized Gaines for her campaign against transgender participation in women’s sports, arguing that the debate should not treat transgender girls as if they were somehow different from other girls.

Cunningham, meanwhile, has pushed back against claims that her position comes from hate. She has said she believes there should be a place for everyone and that people can disagree while still treating each other with kindness.

At the same time, Cunningham has found plenty of support from fans, activists, and politicians who agree with her stance.

Notably, the issue has attracted support from Vice President JD Vance, who publicly told Cunningham to “keep speaking your mind” despite the criticism.

That said, the controversy is showing no signs of slowing down. Another protest is planned for the Fever’s game in Chicago on Saturday, while another is expected outside the Barclays Center for Aug 22, when the Fever face the New York Liberty.

Carrington, meanwhile, recently returned to the court after missing the first 27 games of the 2026 WNBA season while recovering from surgery on her left foot.
