Angel Reese tallied a team-high 23 points, 16 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block in the Atlanta Dream’s matchup against the Las Vegas Aces on Monday. She became the first player in franchise history to record three straight 20-point, 10-rebound games.
Despite the All-Star forward’s outstanding display, the Dream still suffered a 109-87 home loss. The blowout defeat prompted Atlanta’s fans to urge the team to bring in more “help” for its double-double machine.
Dream Supporters Get Critical After Angel Reese’s Heroics Go Unrewarded vs. Aces
Reese played 27 minutes, tied for the least among the starters, but the Dream kept within striking distance of the defending champions during her stint on the floor. Las Vegas only outscored Atlanta by 3 points when the 6-foot-4 forward played.
The lopsided loss despite Reese’s efficient (10-for-19 shooting) and productive night drew harsh reactions from Dream supporters.

Reese’s fellow starters Gray, Naz Hillmon, and Jordin Canada scored 7 points each, a key reason why the Dream lost, marking their first defeat since mid-July. An off night from three of the five starters doesn’t necessarily mean more help is needed, though.
Gray, Canada, and Hillmon have been playing well this season along with the Dream’s fifth starter, Rhyne Howard. Gray and Howard earned well-deserved All-Star selections, while Canada and Hillmon have been important to Atlanta’s strong campaign (18-11).
Even if the Dream want more help, making significant personnel changes past Sunday’s trade deadline is no longer possible. They have to finish the season with the names on their roster.
Help may already have arrived in Atlanta, though. Brionna Jones, who missed the team’s first 24 games with a torn right meniscus, has returned and made an immediate impact. Atlanta went 4-0 with the veteran forward/center coming off the bench before Monday’s loss to the Aces.
How head coach Karl Smesko maximizes his deep roster could determine whether Atlanta solves its offensive inconsistencies. With Jones healthy again, one option is pairing her with Reese in the starting frontcourt while shifting Hillmon into a key reserve role, giving the Dream more size and versatility.
For now, however, Atlanta is committed to its current core. The Dream will continue their push toward championship contention with Reese leading the way, hoping the current roster will be enough against the WNBA’s elite.
