Wearing a Philadelphia 76ers jersey was probably one of the last things former Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown ever imagined.
However, a blockbuster offseason trade turned that unlikely scenario into reality, and Brown has now opened up about what the experience has been like.

The Celtics’ decision to include Brown in offseason trade discussions for Giannis Antetokounmpo had already left the veteran star frustrated. Brown repeatedly expressed his loyalty and long-term commitment to Boston throughout the entire process. Still, the organization continued exploring potential deals involving him after its pursuit of Antetokounmpo ultimately fell short.
Brown’s disappointment grew after learning he had been traded to the very same 76ers team that knocked the Celtics out of the 2026 playoffs. His move to Philadelphia carries even greater significance because of his long-standing rivalry with the franchise and the 76ers’ passionate fanbase.
Following Boston’s heartbreaking playoff series loss to Philadelphia, Brown vented his emotions during a Twitch livestream. He criticized the officiating while also taking aim at Joel Embiid’s playstyle, calling the former MVP a “flopper.” Considering the history, the news of his trade to the 76ers was perhaps one of the most shocking and emotionally difficult moments of his career.
Still, Brown appears to have accepted the reality of the situation and has begun embracing his next chapter. During his latest Twitch stream on Monday, the former Celtics star donned his new 76ers jersey for the first time and admitted it was an emotional adjustment.
“I mean, it feels weird wearing a different jersey,” Brown said. “I ain’t gonna lie, but here we are, you know what I mean?”

Brown devoted his entire career to the Celtics after being selected with the No. 3 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. Even so, he admitted that he now feels he was unable to convince the organization that he should stay for the long haul. The five-time All-Star said the experience has fueled his determination to succeed with Philadelphia.
“I’m more inspired to win than anything,” Brown continued. “I feel like I’ve been a little bit disrespected in this process for whatever reason from people that I thought valued me and everything I brought to the team and the city.
“I found out quickly that may or may not be the case. So, I want to win more than anything. So, I’m looking forward to that journey, that approach, the leadership, the sacrifice, and whatever it’s gonna take.”

Brown played a pivotal role in helping the Celtics win the 2024 NBA championship, earning him the Finals MVP award. The 29-year-old also carried much of Boston’s offensive load this past season while Jayson Tatum recovered from an Achilles injury, averaging a career-best 28.7 points per game.
Though the trade officially brought Brown’s decade-long tenure in Boston to an end, it also presented him with an opportunity to compete alongside a star-studded 76ers roster featuring LeBron James, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey.
With that level of talent around him and his renewed motivation after the trade, Brown appears determined to elevate his game even further. Boston fans and the Celtics organization should now prepare to face a highly motivated version of their former franchise star.
