‘Important Announcement’ — Clay Travis Issues $10,000,000 Challenge to WNBA-Champion Aces Amid Sophie Cunningham Trans-Athlete Controversy

Clay Travis has made an eye-opening offer to the WNBA's Las Vegas Aces amidst the league's latest political controversy.

The WNBA has found itself in the midst of a political firestorm at the moment. The topic of discussion surrounds the inclusion of transgender athletes taking part in girls’ and women’s sports.

Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham shared her thoughts in an ESPN article, explaining that she wants to protect young girls in locker rooms and in sports from having to “go against biological men.” Those comments have drawn in commenters from all corners of the sports and political realms to share their thoughts.

That includes the outspoken Clay Travis.

Clay Travis Shares Unique Offer to WNBA-Champion Las Vegas Aces

Travis, known for founding Outkick, isn’t afraid to share controversial claims both on air and on social media. On Monday, Travis made a $10,000,000 offer to the Las Vegas Aces to prove a point.

“Important announcement: I am upping my offer, $10 million dollars for a head-to-head basketball game between the defending WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces and a boy’s high school state title team of my choice,” Travis wrote. “If the Aces beat my team, I will give them $10 million.”

The point Travis is seemingly eager to make is that a high school boys’ basketball team is superior to a WNBA team and its roster of women.

It’s unlikely that this hypothetical matchup will ever actually happen, but his tweet has millions of views and has become a story amidst the Cunningham controversy.

This $10 million offer comes after Travis chimed in after Seattle Storm co-owner Celeste Keaton allegedly berated two teenage girls for holding a sign in support of Cunningham and her comments on transgender athletes in women’s and girls’ sports.

Sadly, much of the national attention surrounding the WNBA right now is on issues that have nothing to do with the games being played on the court. The league is as popular as its ever been, yet the national conversation has to do with the controversies.

Cunningham is a WNBA star, and her words carry a lot of weight. Now that her comments have reached the political world, this story is one that will only continue to grow in prominence as the WNBA season continues and even more people chime in.
