A new NFL season is right around the corner. As teams prepare for the games to get underway, training camp provides them with the perfect opportunity to build chemistry and refine plays. At the same time, it gives fans a chance to see their new squad.
For the Buffalo Bills, who are incorporating a new star wide receiver in D.J. Moore and a new head coach, there is a lot to look forward to from training camp. But the biggest story has somehow become the confusing choice of location, which carries some injury risks.
Buffalo Bills May Be Putting Players at Risk
It is a season of new beginnings for the Bills. After parting ways with Sean McDermott, the team moved forward with Joe Brady as the new head coach. Moreover, the 2026 season marks the start of a new chapter as they shift their home stadium to the newly constructed Highmark Stadium.
But before the games get underway, the first focus is on training camp, which is taking place at St. John Fisher University in Pittsford, New York. So far, the team has taken part in practices on July 29, July 30, and August 1, with the next scheduled for August 3.
But as videos emerge online about the practices, fans have noticed one extremely risky detail. The clip in question was one of Josh Allen throwing a pass to receiver Mecole Hardman that flew out of bounds.
As Hardman slowed to a stop, curious-eyed folks were quick to notice the field converging directly with the road Hardman was running on. Analyst Warren Sharp immediately questioned, “Why is there wet asphalt a few yards from the end zone?”

Others saw the problems with the structure, too, as one fan claimed, “Cleats on wet pavement could be a disaster.” Pranav Sriraman was outright perplexed by the design choice, asking, “Why is there a wet road at the end of the endzone?”

Even a Kansas City Chiefs analyst, Price Carter, believed the decision was very dangerous. “Concrete behind the end zones at camp is crazy. Such an injury risk.”
Tyler DeSena, who covers the Miami Dolphins for Sports Illustrated, recalled a similar situation that almost caused a major injury to Tyreek Hill.
He revealed, “The pavement here reminds me of attending training camp two years ago and thinking I ended Tyreek Hill’s season. Tyreek caught a long TD, jumped a barrier onto the berm, tried to stop short not to run me over, slipped on a drain cover, and fell. Then he got up and started dancing, which gave me a massive sigh of relief.”
Even though the situation didn’t end in disaster back then, the problems with the field’s design are legitimate. A wet asphalt road could cause serious injuries if the players aren’t careful. It remains to be seen if the Bills make some changes to prevent such a scenario.
But for now, their focus seems to be on making the most out of training camp, before the action shifts to Highmark Stadium.
