From 1995 to 2012, Joe Banner was known as the team president of the Philadelphia Eagles, who, under his watchful eye, went on to reach the playoffs in 11 of his 18 seasons, which included Super Bowl XXXIX in February 2005.
Banner, 73, no longer has a job in the NFL. He last worked as a consultant with the Atlanta Falcons from 2014 to 2015. Yet, he’s back in the news this week after dropping a sharp take on Philly’s defensive coordinator, Vic Fangio.
Joe Banner Rips Eagles’ ‘Trump Supporter’ DC Vic Fangio
NFL teams are reporting to training camps, including the Eagles, where Vic Fangio currently works as the defensive coordinator. On Thursday, the former Super Bowl champion addressed the media.
When Fangio started off his session, he did so with a bit of a joke aimed at Dr. Fauci.
“I’m gonna be like Fauci and just take the Fifth Amendment on all questions. Did you guys see that? Oh my god.”
In other words, Fangio wasn’t too interested in sitting down with the media and sharing any of his trade secrets as a veteran coach. Nevertheless, Fangio continued on with his session anyway.
Afterward, Banner, who clearly still keeps close tabs on his former Eagles organization, took time to comment on the clip of Fangio’s comments via X. Banner’s takeaway was to brand Fangio a “classic Trump supporter.”
“Vic seems to miss Trump taking the 5th 450 times,” Banner wrote. “Classic Trump supporter.”
At a congressional hearing this week, Dr Fauci made headlines for invoking his constitutional right against self-incrimination over 100 times throughout a hearing that threatened to go sideways at various points.

The 67-year-old Fangio is headed into his third season as the Eagles’ defensive coordinator. His defense allowed the fifth-fewest points in the NFL last season.
Philadelphia recently got both of its star defensive tackles to agree to multi-year contract extensions, ensuring Fangio’s group will remain strong in the trenches.
However, one of the Eagles’ offseason trade acquisitions, Jonathan Greenard, hasn’t been able to participate in training camp. The Eagles traded the 98th overall pick plus a 2027 third-round pick for Greenard during the 2026 NFL Draft, but he’s currently on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list with a strained pectoral muscle.
Greenard was added, in part, to help make up for the loss of Jaelan Phillips, who inked a four-year, $120 million contract with the Carolina Panthers in free agency. The Eagles signed Greenard to a four-year, $98 million contract extension after the trade.
The Eagles still have Jalyx Hunt and Nolan Smith on the edge, but until Greenard returns, Philadelphia has a bit of a question mark among its pass-rushers. Finding a solution there gives Fangio plenty to focus his attention on ahead of his third season with the team.
