‘She Could Come Out With a Book That Blows It All Up’ — Analyst Wonders If NFL’s Silence Is ‘Empowering Dianna Russini’ to Expose All

With the NFL seemingly ignoring the Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini scandal, one analyst believes that decision could backfire.

The Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel scandal was among the biggest stories of the entire NFL offseason. After photos of the two at a resort in Arizona were published by Page Six, their alleged affair became a tabloid circus.

Russini has since resigned from The Athletic, while Vrabel missed Day 3 of the 2026 NFL Draft to attend counseling. The NFL has turned a blind eye to the entire saga, choosing not to investigate since it was deemed a personal matter. One NFL analyst believes that the league looking the other way is a mistake.

Analyst Warns Dianna Russini Could Do Damage to NFL

Ever since the pictures and videos leaked, Russini has stayed out of the limelight. Her reporting is still under investigation by The Athletic, and it remains to be seen when they will conclude their internal probe.

Unlike Russini, Vrabel walked away relatively unscathed. He admitted to some tough conversations with his family and members of the New England Patriots’ organization, but the franchise has supported him every step of the way and last season’s Coach of the Year appears to be safe.

Dan Bernstein, an NFL analyst and the host of the “Forward Progress” podcast, put forward a potentially scary scenario that could become reality given how the NFL has handled the entire scandal.

“The league doesn’t appear as interested to follow up all the Mike Vrabel-Dianna Russini stuff. Because there’s been nothing. I don’t know if the league is hoping it goes away,” he said, while interviewing ESPN’s senior NFL reporter Kalyn Kahler.

“Because what I’m thinking is, the less the league does, the more you’re empowering Dianna Russini to just start laying waste. She could come out with a book somewhere that blows it all up. It’s got to be a concern.”

Kahler said that while she hasn’t “done a ton of reporting on this,” she did provide a tidbit about how the situation has made people around the league more cautious.

“I was talking to a coach. He was like, ‘You know there’s a big magnifying glass on us now because of the Vrabel-Dianna thing,'” she revealed. “And this person did not work for the Patriots. This was a coach for a whole different club with no ties to this situation at all.”

She added that this coach told her that he feels all coaches are under the microscope now due to the Vrabel-Russini scandal.

To this point, Russini has stayed silent and refused to detail her version of events. If she eventually decides to write a tell-all book or give an in-depth interview on what happened, it could potentially spell trouble for Vrabel and the NFL as a whole, as Bernstein mentioned.
