Justin Herbert spent six seasons giving away almost nothing about himself. On Tuesday, he got down on one knee and let the internet watch.
Madison Beer announced the engagement in a joint Instagram post captioned “meet my fiancé,” a carousel that shows Herbert proposing outdoors in a white long-sleeved shirt, then carrying her while she holds up the ring. Kylie Jenner and Sofia Richie Grainge left hearts on it within hours. Chargers veterans reported to training camp the same afternoon.

The first evidence was accidental. Photographers caught Herbert on the Los Angeles set of a Beer video shoot in August 2025, and the two left together in his car afterward. Fans who had already clocked her quietly liking Chargers posts assembled the rest, and they were right.
They confirmed it on October 5, when cameras caught them kissing on the SoFi Stadium sideline before the Week 5 game against Washington. After that, they stopped hiding.

October did the rest. They sat courtside at Crypto.com Arena on Oct. 24, where Herbert went viral for swatting away a loose basketball headed toward Beer’s seat. A Chargers Halloween party that weekend followed, the two of them in matching sailor costumes. The month closed at Game 3 of the World Series, the 18-inning Dodgers win over Toronto, where Justin Bieber stopped by their seats.

Their first appearance at a proper industry event came Jan. 31 at Clive Davis’ pre-Grammys gala in Beverly Hills. She walked the carpet alone in a beige Marmar Halim gown. He skipped the carpet entirely, then sat beside her inside and posed for photographers, which, for Herbert, counts as a declaration.

Beer is Herbert’s first public relationship. He answers questions about football and deflects everything else, and for most of his career, there was nothing much to deflect.
That started shifting on March 5, Beer’s 27th birthday, when he posted about her at all, which he almost never does. He wrote that she was his favorite person of all time and had changed his life forever. A hazy shot from a night out carried the line, “I am the luckiest guy alive.” He closed the run with a photo of her petting a gaggle of goats, captioned as his goats.
Five days later, on his own birthday, she returned it. “I am so lucky to be yours, you are my dream come true,” she wrote over one of the photos.
The bigger tell came in May. Herbert played the love interest in the video for “Lovergirl,” off the deluxe edition of Locket, three and a half minutes of beach, photo booth, and kissing. Fans caught the license plate on the car in the video. It reads MBJH4EV.
Beer, 27, released Locket on January 16 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Pop Recording for “Make You Mine.” She opened the tour behind it on May 11 in Poland, with Herbert traveling Europe alongside her before he reported for the Chargers’ offseason program. In June, she told fans that watching him fly every week during the season is what finally cured her fear of flying, which is a strange and specific benefit of dating a quarterback.
They now join Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift, married July 3 at Madison Square Garden, in a category the league has gotten comfortable with. The difference is volume. Swift and Kelce arrive with a podcast, a broadcast apparatus, and a camera in every suite. Herbert and Beer have mostly just turned up at places and left.
