‘Ryan Poles Needs To Get on the Phone’ — NFL World Reacts to Buccaneers’ Pro Bowler Vita Vea Requesting Trade

Tampa Bay is all Vita Vea has known in his NFL career. After he requested a trade away, the NFL world gave their reactions to the breaking news.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were in complete control of the NFC South in 2025, until they weren’t. They came crashing and burning late in 2025 as the division slipped away, and they missed the playoffs. Now, it’s getting worse for the Buccaneers faithful as Pro Bowl DT Vita Vea requested a trade out of Tampa Bay. The NFL world jumped on social media to express their feelings.

NFL World Lets Their Feelings Out on Vita Vea’s Trade Request

Vea wants out of Tampa Bay after eight seasons with the franchise. NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that Vea couldn’t reach an agreement with the front office on a contract extension and has asked to leave.

“Vita Vea has wanted a new deal and thus far the Bucs have not found a number that works for him,” Schultz wrote on X.

This wasn’t on the radar of the NFL world on a Monday evening in July and caught former Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee by surprise.

“WHOOOOAAAAA,” said McAfee.

Former NFL scout John Middlekauff chimed in with a comment of his own on Vea’s situation.

“Someone wants a big new deal (free agent in 27) and is hearing numbers he doesn’t like,” said Middlekauff.

While this trade request is a reality check for the Buccaneers, it doesn’t necessarily spell the end of Vea’s tenure with the team. Vea could be forcing the hand of Tampa Bay to pay him what he wants, or they’ll have to deal him away.

“The Bucs often times get contracts done late in camp or right up to the start of the season. There was a thought this was possibly going to be the case with Vea. Doesn’t mean it still can’t be the case, but this development creates obviously more complexity to the situation,” said NFL insider James Palmer.

With a trade now a real possibility, the NFL world is brainstorming new homes for Vea. “Ryan Poles Needs To Get On The Phone Immediately,” said one NFL content creator.

The Chicago Bears could be a destination for Vea and definitely might need some help up front. Poles has often found solutions to problems Chicago has faced, and this might be another answer to the questions that need to be answered for a deep playoff run.

The San Francisco 49ers saw their defense decimated by injuries last season and could use some help in the trenches, too. One social media personality simply responded with a GIF of San Francisco GM John Lynch.

The Vea situation is another that has gotten on the nerves of Tampa Bay fans. After their disastrous collapse in 2025, many thought that Todd Bowles would be headed for the unemployment line. That wasn’t the case, and he’ll be back once again. Now, they can’t agree to a contract with their two-time Pro Bowler up front, have let Mike Evans go, and saw franchise legend Lavonte David hang up the cleats.

“The Bucs refuse to let Todd Bowles go and: Face of the franchise Mike Evans leaves, Lavonte David retires, Vita Vea requests a trade. Good decision guys!” said one social media personality.

A tough offseason has gotten even tougher, but the Buccaneers should still be in contention for the NFC South crown and a chance to make a playoff run.

If they can figure out a solution with Vea that doesn’t involve trading him, the Buccaneers should and will likely be in a solid spot to find themselves back in contention to win games in January.
