Stefon Diggs is one of the most high-profile free agents available in the NFL after being released by the New England Patriots in March. Diggs has been beset by off-field legal issues and, after escaping assault and battery charges in May, is currently battling sexual assault accusations by a social media influencer.
Stefon Diggs Linked to Washington Commanders
During a segment of “SportsCenter,” ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler revealed that the Washington Commanders could make a move for a wide receiver and that Diggs fits the profile that the NFC contenders are seeking.
“I’m told that at least five teams that need a receiver have been checking on his market to see how things are going as he works out on his own,” Fowler said. “I’m told Diggs is highly motivated here because he’s not rehabbing an ACL as he was last year. He only played 55% of the snaps for New England, still got 1,000 yards. Still feels like he can be a really good No. 2 receiver for a top quarterback.
“Now, Washington is intriguing to him because Jayden Daniels is a young QB, he’s from that DMV area. The rumors around the league are that Washington could add a receiver at some point to go with Terry McLaurin. So something should shake out for Diggs. But hey, look, these guys don’t always wanna go to training camp and be in ninety-degree heat, they can wait a week or two before they sign.”

Diggs was selected No. 146 overall by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2015 NFL Draft and quickly established himself as one of the most consistent wide receivers in the league, managing 1,000 receiving yards in seven of his last eight seasons, with a torn ACL cutting short his 2024 season, proving the exception.
In his 11-year NFL career, Diggs has earned four Pro Bowl nods and one first-team All-Pro selection (2020), alongside being the NFL receptions and receiving yards leader in 2020. The best years of Diggs’ NFL career came during his stint with the Buffalo Bills (2020–2023), during which he earned all his Pro Bowl nods.
He had an unremarkable stint with the Houston Texans in 2024 and then signed with the Patriots, where he flourished in the team that reached the Super Bowl against the Seattle Seahawks last season.
Last season, Diggs registered 1,013 receiving yards on 85 catches, resulting in four touchdowns. He earned the league’s seventh-highest PFN Wide Receiver Impact score of 82.9.
The wide receiver free agent market is saturated with several high-profile names, including former Los Angeles Chargers star Keenan Allen and ex-Miami Dolphins standout Tyreek Hill, making for an intriguing selection for NFL teams.
