Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders had his fair share of haters coming out of college, with his flashy personality and being the son of Deion Sanders. He was a volatile figure at Colorado and then fell in the draft, and many wondered if he’d find his footing in Cleveland or not.
The young quarterback has seemed to find his footing, but there are still plenty of doubters out there, and former MVP Cam Newton called out former NFL coach Rex Ryan as one of them.
Cam Newton Calls Out Rex Ryan For Hating on Shedeur Sanders
Sanders had a photoshoot this past weekend and when it became public, Ryan was quick to comment on social media.
“Get a load of this kid… Great talent needs to realize as a “franchise” QB there has to be more we than me… Cmon man…,” Ryan wrote on X.
On Wednesday morning’s episode of 4th and 1 with Cam Newton, the former NFL quarterback let Ryan have it for “hating” on the young quarterback.
“Somebody has to say it. What’s up? It’s almost like the pot calling the kettle black. Cause when I look back in my almanac, when he was the New York Jets coach, yeah, it was always about Rex Ryan,” Newton said. “Always. That doesn’t make him a bad guy.”
Newton added he has against having that type of personality, but Ryan can’t call out Sanders for acting the same way he did during his time in the league.
He had a big personality whether he wanted it or not. Well, Shedeur Sanders is in the same situation where, just because he garners a lot of attention, some of that is indirect attention, some of that is direct attention,” Newton said. “Needless to say, brother, he is who you are.
“You’re hating what a person that garners attention naturally do.”
Ryan coached for nearly 30 years, between college and the NFL. He started in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals in 1994 as a defensive line and linebackers coach.

He got his first head coaching opportunity in 2009 with the New York Jets and took the franchise to the playoffs in his first two seasons.
Since his departure from coaching, Ryan has been an analyst, mostly for ESPN.
After defending Sanders and calling out Ryan, Newton continued by joking that Sanders must be the former NFL coach’s favorite player because of how often he’s calling him out.
“It’s become abundantly clear, Rex, Shedeur is your favorite player. Cause I’m like, he mind his business. I can see if this happened during the season, after a loss, after the game,” Newton said. “You can’t hide that hate for too long, boy. A squeaky wheel gonna ask for grease every time.”
Sanders is entering his second season with the Browns, and he’s in the midst of a tight quarterback battle with Deshaun Watson.
