While the NBA wants him to hurry up already, LeBron James is taking his sweet time deciding on his next team. But Draymond Green, who has competed against James for the past 14 seasons, doesn’t think anyone, even NBA commissioner Adam Silver, can rush the four-time MVP.
In fact, Green believes that just because Silver publicly pleaded with the 41-year-old to speed up his decision so the NBA can finalize its schedule for the 2026-27 season, it doesn’t mean that will tug on James’ heartstrings.
Draymond Green Anticipates LeBron James Could Further Delay Decision Because of Adam Silver
James could be closing in on his final chapter. He’s already played 23 seasons; stretching that record to 24 will be a marvel in itself.
Still, even at his age, James remains one of the NBA’s biggest attendance draws. Everyone’s trying to get a first look or one last chance to witness greatness.
That will remain true wherever the 22-time All-Star signs next, and it could even heighten excitement as he plays alongside a new group of players that fans haven’t seen him compete with.
Yet, naturally, it’s not hard to understand why Silver is hoping for a swift resolution.
“I would like him to make his announcement already, so we can finish the schedule, because, as you might imagine, the teams are calling us, the networks are calling us, and everybody wants to lock in the schedule,” Silver said last week. “But it will influence how we set the schedule, how we set opening week, Christmas Day, etc. So, I need him to make a decision.”
However, this will be one of the biggest decisions of James’ career, and likely his last move. It’s not something that should be rushed or made in haste. Once James signs on the dotted line, there’s no going back. He knows that.
As for Green, the Warriors’ enforcer doesn’t think James cares about Silver trying to rush him along. In fact, Green believes that type of push from the NBA’s commissioner could even get James to drag his feet for a few more days or weeks.
“Adam saying that is not going to speed up LeBron’s decision at all. If I know Bron well, if anything, it may slow his decision down a little more because that’s just how Bron is,” Green said on Monday’s edition of “The Draymond Green Show.”

The idea of James being ready to announce his decision, but holding back purely to spite Silver, is a comical one.
Yet, that’s just the power James holds. He may no longer be the league’s best player, but he’s undoubtedly still one of the NBA’s most important players, and Silver’s recent comments reflect that.
In turn, the league will have to continue working around James’ schedule, not the other way around.
