For most NFL players, the offseason is all about rest, recovery, and, for younger players, developing their skills. That last frame is the category in which Shedeur Sanders falls.
The 24-year-old second-year player is competing with Deshaun Watson to become the Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback. But that doesn’t mean there has to be any awkward tension between the two competitors.
Shedeur Sanders Worked Out with Several Browns Teammates
While two players, especially quarterbacks, competing for the same job might turn into a literal battle where egos and feelings get involved, the Browns’ QB room doesn’t seem to be becoming a cancerous battleground.
Credit to the coaching staff and the QBs for keeping a level head thus far. Rather than Sanders and Watson keeping their distance from one another, they seem to be embracing their unique situations.
Knowing that Browns receivers and pass-catchers both need work and want to build chemistry with their gunslinger, the two quarterbacks got together to organize one big workout group, like a family.
Sanders touted the additional workouts as “extremely important” from a teambuilding aspect before Browns training camp gets underway on July 23 for rookies and July 28 for vets.

“I think it was extremely important to us as a group, for whoever was available, to come down to Miami,” Sanders said. “For those that came, it was truly amazing. We felt a different type of bond there.”

Jerry Jeudy, Isaiah Bond, Cedric Tillman, K.C. Concepcion, Denzel Boston, Jamari Thrash, and running back Dylan Sampson were among the players who attended the Miami camp.

Credit to the 24-year-old Sanders and the former Pro Bowler in Watson for both recognizing they could use more work with their teammates. It’s this type of extra credit that can help teams get ahead when others may not be doing the additional work necessary to further their development.
Yet, after a 5-12 finish last season, many members of the Browns realize that they’ll have to put forth a better effort to stick with a competitive AFC North division.
The opportunity to strike could be as golden as ever, especially considering three of the four teams in the division now have a new head coach.
Chances are, one of them won’t be as good as their replacement; the Browns just have to hope it’s not them that’s taking a step back after moving on from two-time Coach of the Year winner Kevin Stefanski.
