Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders faced criticism from former New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan over the weekend. Sanders was setting up a photo shoot using a large number of his Browns No. 12 jerseys.
Yet, Ryan felt that the former fifth-round pick was displaying a me-first attitude, and he let the world know it by posting his take to social media. Now, Sanders has opened up for the first time since Ryan’s remarks were made public.
Shedeur Sanders Displays He’s Far from a ‘Me-First’ Athlete
Ryan clearly didn’t like what Sanders was doing on social media the other day. Meanwhile, Sanders has gone on with his life like nothing ever happened.
Ironically, Sanders was at a football camp for kids after his photo shoot, showing that he’s nothing like the “me-first” athlete that Ryan suggested.
“I’m a superhero in my world anyways,” Sanders said. “I’m truly excited that they feel excited to see me.
“I would say most of the time, usually as athletes we’re isolated more, so it’s about giving into community, seeing everybody, the inspiration we give just by showing up. It’s a very simple task, so I truly appreciate it.”

First off, I love the fact that Sanders made sure to point out how giving back to the community, showing up for kids, and putting a smile on their faces is a “very simple task.”

Because it is. It’s literally one of the easiest things that pro athletes are paid to do, but some view it as a nuisance.
Seriously though, how ironic is it that Sanders’ football camp would kick off just a day after Ryan made the following comments?

To Ryan’s credit, he did suggest Sanders is a “great talent.” Still, I know I’d be curious to see what Ryan’s first impression is, both from seeing so many kids light up upon Sanders’ entrance, but also knowing he loves to volunteer time by giving back to the community.
As Sanders said, he’s a “superhero” in his world. But again, the loudmouthed Ryan may not like hearing such braggadocious claims coming from his quarterback.
The good thing is, he’s not Ryan’s quarterback, but with a strong camp, he could emerge as the Browns’ QB1, where he’ll have the chance to play hero on the football field too.
