‘The Knee Situation Is Worrisome’ — NFL Executive Sounds Alarm on Malik Nabers Ahead of Giants WR’s Third Season

An NFL executive shared an honest assessment of Malik Nabers' injury as the Giants star received an honorable mention in ESPN's rankings.

The biggest factor defining Malik Nabers’ 2026 season is the recovery of his right knee. The New York Giants’ outlook for the upcoming season largely depends on their receiver making a full recovery, and ESPN’s latest rankings highlight the confidence in his ability to bounce back.

NFL Executive Sends Strong Malik Nabers Message Ahead of Giants’ 2026 Season

Entering last season, Nabers seemed primed for another big season before his campaign was cut short in Week 4. He suffered a torn ACL and meniscus just four games into the season, requiring major knee reconstruction. He later underwent a minor procedure this spring to remove scar tissue that had been limiting his mobility.

Nabers’ absence dealt a big blow to the Giants, who were already struggling after opening the season with a 1-4 record. Without their top receiving threat, New York finished with a disappointing 4-13 mark.

Before the injury, Nabers had recorded 18 catches for 271 yards and 2 touchdowns. Those numbers came after an exceptional rookie season when he recorded 109 receptions for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 games. That first season earned him an 82.8 grade and the No. 8 spot in PFN’s WR Impact rankings.

Nabers’ immense talent remains unquestioned, as proved once again by ESPN’s survey of league executives, coaches, and scouts to rank the top 10 wide receivers in the NFL heading into 2026. Nabers couldn’t crack the top 10 list, but got an honorable mention as injury can’t overshadow his potential.

“He’s easily a top-10 receiver,” an AFC executive said. “The knee situation is worrisome, but hopefully he bounces back soon. But he can do everything you need.”

PFN also recognized Nabers’ potential by placing him at No. 85 in its list of the NFL’s top 100 players entering the 2026 season.

Nabers’ elite potential had been evident long before he entered the NFL, as he earned unanimous All-American honors after leading the FBS with 1,569 receiving yards in his final season at LSU in 2023. He left Baton Rouge as the Tigers’ all-time leader in career receiving yards with 3,003 and later boosted his draft stock at LSU Pro Day by posting a 4.35-second 40-yard dash along with a 42-inch vertical leap.

Giants fans will now be hoping Nabers can return to full strength and regain the dominant form he displayed early in his NFL career.

Nabers is expected to return to on-field work as training camp gradually gets underway, and head coach John Harbaugh said both Nabers and Cam Skattebo remain on track in their recoveries. Harbaugh said that while Skattebo is slightly ahead because of the nature of his injury, Nabers “is not far behind” and is progressing well each day.
