Shams Charania revealed a potential doomsday scenario for Kawhi Leonard if he's found guilty in the league's current investigation.

The future of NBA champion Kawhi Leonard is a hot topic in the NBA community this summer. Leonard hopes to enter his final chapter with the Toronto Raptors, but is still being investigated for potential wrongdoing while still a member of the Los Angeles Clippers.

Top league insider Shams Charania revealed a potential nightmare scenario for Leonard if he’s found guilty.

Shams Charania Revealed Kawhi Leonard’s Career May Be On The Line As NBA Investigation Continues

Charania revealed the potential consequences of the league’s investigation, which might lead to the end of Leonard’s career.

He said, “The absolute worst care scenario that no one is expecting, but absolute worst is Kawhi Leonard’s contract being voided, or him being suspended for an extended period of time. It all comes down to the evidence and what’s found in the investigation.”

The league is investigating whether the Clippers illegally manipulated the salary cap by paying Leonard through an endorsement deal with the green banking company Aspiration, which has since gone bankrupt. Clippers owner Steve Ballmer invested in the company and denies any wrongdoing. Leonard also denies any wrongdoing.

The investigation now has an extra level of intrigue following the Clippers and Leonard’s decision to part ways. The organization agreed to trade Leonard to the Toronto Raptors, but the league has postponed the trade while it continues its investigation.

Leonard reportedly envisions finishing his career in Toronto. He would return to the organization after winning a championship there in 2019 while also being named Finals MVP. However, Charania’s comments suggest Leonard will not enjoy the planned happy ending to his career if the NBA finds evidence of wrongdoing.

Leonard proved he’s still one of the best players in the league during the season, averaging 27.9 points per game while making the All-NBA Second Team. However, the writing appeared to be on the wall that his era in Los Angeles was coming to an end as the organization traded key players James Harden and Ivica Zubac.

The Leonard era in Los Angeles will end without a championship, as fans continue to think about the now-infamous trade that sent Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to Oklahoma City for Paul George. The ongoing investigation could be the final piece of a time in Clippers history that will always cause fans to say what if?
