Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and pop superstar Taylor Swift tied the knot in a lavish celebration at Madison Square Garden on July 3, with every effort made to keep the event as private as possible.
However, with more than 1,000 guests attending what many dubbed the wedding of the year, keeping every detail under wraps and every guest satisfied was always going to be a challenge. As more attendees have begun sharing their experiences anonymously, criticism of several aspects of the celebration has started to emerge.
Guests Raise Complaints About Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s Wedding
Swift and Kelce’s extravagant celebration attracted stars from virtually every industry. Pop icons, NFL superstars, and Hollywood A-listers filled the guest list, while Adam Sandler officiated the ceremony.
Every detail, from the cocktails to the menu, was carefully curated, with luxury brands such as Christian Louboutin and Cartier contributing to the fashion and jewelry. The NFL also had a significant presence throughout the celebration.
Everything appeared flawless until guests began anonymously voicing complaints. One attendee told the Daily Mail that “the ceremony was really long,” claiming Swift’s and Kelce’s vows each lasted “around 20 minutes.”
Another guest criticized the reception, saying A-list attendees had to wait in line at a buffet.
“I couldn’t believe that there was a buffet at the wedding of the year,’ the guest said. “That felt like such a tacky move… amazing A-listers having to stand in line. It wasn’t quite what I expected.”
According to another insider, however, the most unusual part of the evening was a raffle in which the couple handed out expensive gifts to guests.
“It was really bizarre,” the insider said. “Straight after the ceremony, Taylor and Travis did a raffle and gave out expensive gifts for an hour. Everyone was weirded out.
“It was a circus meet-and-greet. Everyone kind of felt like, why are they giving away Chanel bags as if we are all their poor fans? It was pretty demeaning. It killed the vibe.”
Not everyone agreed with that assessment. Another guest described the raffle as a fun addition, saying the couple gave away luxury watches, Chanel bags, and even a vintage 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle. The source added that several high-profile celebrities simply chose not to participate.
Some guests, including Tom Brady, Jessica Alba, and Hugh Grant, were also photographed leaving early. However, the reasons for their early departures remain unclear.
Another reportedly awkward moment came during the rehearsal dinner, when Lena Dunham delivered a speech that Swift allegedly wasn’t expecting, joking that “American football is just straight guys reenacting gay p**n.”
Despite the criticism, many attendees appeared to enjoy the celebration, with former NFL player and broadcaster Pat McAfee describing it as a “spectacular” event. According to the New York Post, the wedding reportedly cost more than $30 million, with floral arrangements and décor alone accounting for roughly $5 million.
The couple also reportedly donated nearly $26 million to charities across the United States.
While some guests may have left with complaints, others praised the celebration, underscoring the reality that an event with more than 1,000 attendees was never likely to satisfy everyone.
