Who’s the best wide receiver in the NFL today? It’s a question with an answer that’s always evolving. Two years ago, the answer might have been Justin Jefferson or Ja’Marr Chase. This year, a common answer would be Puka Nacua or Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Yet, the fact that there are so many valid answers is a testament to how strong and deep the position has become today. Pass-catchers aren’t just better than ever before; they’re also developing advanced skill sets that help them produce in complicated NFL offenses, even as rookies.
But again, who’s the best receiver in the NFL? It’s a topic that’s certainly up for debate.
NFL’s Best Receiver: Puka Nacua, Ja’Marr Chase, or Jaxon Smith-Njigba?
If we were robots and simply looked at stat sheets, one might infer that the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year was the best receiver in football. After all, Smith-Njigba did lead the league with 1,793 receiving yards in 2025.
But he didn’t rank No. 1 on Pro Football Network’s list of best receivers. So, who did?
PFN didn’t just rank the best receivers in football. Those activities get done on a weekly, if not daily, basis. They ranked the best 100 players, regardless of position, in the entire NFL.
In doing so, PFN determined that Nacua is the NFL’s fifth-best player and the best receiver overall.

“If any wide receiver is going to break Calvin Johnson’s single season receiving yards record, it’s Puka Nacua,” Jason Katz wrote.
Coming in at No. 9 overall was Chase, PFN’s second-best receiver. Katz was just as bullish on Chase, not just now but going forward into 2026 too.
“Chase’s target volume has increased every year of his career and for good reason,” Katz wrote. “He is the best wide receiver in football firmly in his prime.”

Ranked at No. 13 was Seattle’s Smith-Njigba.
“After a 119-1793-10 season, he is now viewed as a Tier 1 WR, a label he figures to hold for years to come,” Kyle Soppe wrote. “Sam Darnold was QB5 in our impact grading last season thanks to the JSN production (his first top-10 of his career) and Kenneth Walker had the needed lanes to run through during the Super Bowl because the Patriots refused to take their eyes off of Seattle’s WR1.”
For those who may be curious, Jefferson came in at No. 16. Behind him was Detroit’s Amon-Ra St. Brown, at No. 20.
That’s five receivers among the 20 best players in the NFL. Two in the top 15 who share the same division in the NFC West, and two more in the top 20 who share the same division in the NFC North. That’s a lot of stiff competition for defensive backs in the NFC.
