Patrick Mahomes Ranked As 6th-Best QB in NFL on PFN’s Top 100 After Major Injury During Down Season With Chiefs

Patrick Mahomes ranked as the sixth-best quarterback on PFN's Top 100 list entering the 2026 season. Here's a closer look at why that's the case.

Patrick Mahomes is one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. However, over the past few seasons, the three-time Super Bowl MVP hasn’t played to his usual standard. PFN appears to have taken notice, ranking Mahomes as the league’s sixth-best quarterback on its Top 100 players list ahead of the 2026 NFL season.

Patrick Mahomes Ranked as 6th-Best QB in NFL on PFN’s Top 100

Mahomes currently ranks No. 15 overall on PFN’s Top 100 list, placing him as the sixth-best quarterback. He trails Matthew Stafford (No. 14), Joe Burrow (No. 10), Drake Maye (No. 8), Lamar Jackson (No. 2), and Josh Allen (No. 1). For comparison, Mahomes ranked No. 6 overall by PFN last offseason.

The drop in ranking can be attributed to several factors, but it seems to stem from a combination of Mahomes struggling mightily down the stretch last season and suffering a season-ending knee injury, a torn ACL and LCL, that forced him to miss the final three games. The injury forced Mahomes to miss the final three games and could continue to hinder him early on in 2026.

Still, ranking as the No. 15 player in the NFL and the sixth-best quarterback is nothing to scoff at. PFN analyst Kyle Soppe made that abundantly clear in his analysis of the three-time All-Pro.

“The numbers are historic and the awards memorable,” Soppe wrote. “When defining greatness at this level, however. it’s about the fear you put in the hearts of the opposition when the chips are down. Since the Mahomes era started for the Chiefs, Kansas City has won 46.7% of games in which they enter the fourth quarter trailing … no other team has a mark of even 28% and the average for the other 31 franchises is 16.4% over that stretch.”

PFN analyst Jacob Infante shared a similar sentiment, noting that despite a slight drop-off in play as of late, Mahomes still possesses the tools, talent, and ability to win that make him one of the league’s best.

“Even if Patrick Mahomes has seen his efficiency dip over the last three seasons, there’s no denying he’s still a top quarterback in the NFL,” Infante wrote. “After five consecutive finishes in the top three of PFN QB Impact Scoring, he’s finished No. 9, No. 10, and No. 11 in his last three seasons, respectively.”

“Questionable supporting casts have surrounded Mahomes on the Chiefs in recent years, but it would be wrong to bet against someone with his resume. The three-time Super Bowl champion has a rocket arm, incredible field vision, pinpoint accuracy, and the poise to make something out of nothing. There are few better quarterbacks to go into battle with than Mahomes.”

There’s no guarantee Mahomes will be ready for Week 1. However, his participation in the Chiefs’ offseason program and OTAs is an encouraging sign. Kansas City opens the 2026 season against the Denver Broncos, and Chiefs fans would want nothing more than to see their franchise quarterback back on the playing field, silencing the critics.
