Fans React as Serena Williams Teases Carlos Alcaraz Partnership at US Open

Williams recently returned to tennis after four years away from the sport, competing in doubles events at the Queen’s Club and Berlin, ahead of the Wimbledon Championships.

The 44-year-old accepted a wildcard to compete in both singles and women’s doubles at Wimbledon. However, a knee injury suffered during her singles match against Maya Joint prevented her from teaming up with her sister Venus Williams in the doubles tournament.

Alcaraz, meanwhile, is working on his rehab as he looks to return to the ATP Tour ahead of his US Open title defense. The 23-year-old recently posted pictures of himself training at his tennis center in Spain and received a rather cryptic comment from Williams, amid the tennis world’s best wishes for his recovery.

“They not ready,” Williams wrote under Alcaraz’s post on Instagram.

The comment caught the eye of fans, with many believing it’s a sign that Williams could team up with Alcaraz for the 2026 US Open Mixed Doubles event. Speculation had been swirling for weeks that the tennis legend could team up with the 23-year-old, while her sister, Venus, was also tipped to potentially join forces with Jannik Sinner.

Tennis journalist José Morgado hinted that Williams’ comment could signal that she and Alcaraz might share the court next month.

“Serena Williams clearly teasing a US Open mixed doubles partnership with Carlos Alcaraz,” he wrote on X.

Another fan backed Alcaraz and Williams to team up at Flushing Meadows ahead of the Grand Slam event.

“Yeah I’m almost certain they’re playing mixed at US Open,” they wrote.

One individual claimed that Williams’ comment was about her and the Spaniard’s chances at the doubles event. Williams is a three-time US Open champion in doubles, including two in the women’s category and one in mixed.

“She’s speaking about her doubles chances,” they wrote.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Williams. However, she has dropped hints that she could be in the field for the North American hardcourt swing.

Alcaraz’s status for his US Open title defense is uncertain, with the seven-time Grand Slam champion still recovering from his wrist injury. He is missing from the Canadian Open entry list but could make his comeback in Cincinnati before competing in New York.
