Karolína Muchová displayed impressive resilience during her thrilling battle with compatriot Linda Nosková in the 2026 Wimbledon Championships final. However, the 29-year-old ultimately fell short of winning her maiden Grand Slam title and delivered an emotional runner-up speech, while lightening the mood with an amusing remark about Nosková.
What Karolína Muchová Said After Her Wimbledon Final Loss to Linda Nosková
Muchová was far from her best in the opening stages of the all-Czech showdown, with Nosková dominating the first set to take a crucial lead. The 21-year-old appeared set for a clinical two-set victory when she raced to a 5-2 lead in the second set. However, Muchová mounted a stellar comeback, raising her level and saving five championship points to force a decider.
Despite the missed opportunities, Nosková regrouped strongly in the third set and secured an early break. She went on to convert her sixth championship point, sealing a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 victory to win her first Grand Slam title. Muchová, meanwhile, suffered her second defeat in a Major final, having previously fallen short against Iga Świątek in the 2023 French Open final.
Muchová was overcome with emotion during the trophy presentation, breaking down in tears before beginning her runner-up speech. Although she was visibly heartbroken, the 29-year-old still managed to draw smiles by jokingly referring to Nosková as her “ex-friend.” She also graciously praised her compatriot for her remarkable display in the final.
“It’s really tough to find any words. But I’ll start with Linda, my ex-friend. I’m kidding obviously, kind of. You’re so young. This was your first final of a Slam. The way you handled it and how you played was really unbelievable. Beyond this all you’re especially a very kind person and human being. Congratulations to you and your team. You deserve it,” Muchová said.

Muchová shed more tears while addressing her loved ones in her player’s box, expressing her gratitude to her family and friends for their support.
“When I look to my corner… Sorry. I’m sorry. It’s emotional. When I look to my corner, I have all my friends and family who canceled their plans and came here today for me. I appreciate it a lot,” she said.
