One of the major question marks for this offseason was Anthony Davis. After the Washington Wizards added the former NBA champion as well as Trae Young, on top of getting the first overall pick in the draft, the situation became a little more convoluted.
Early in the offseason, rumors of a potential trade to the Golden State Warriors also seemed to be in the works, which could thereby spark a move to acquire LeBron James as well. However, now we might have a clear indication of what the upcoming season looks like for AD.
Anthony Davis Might Stay Put for 2026-27
Establishing himself as a premier talent for the Los Angeles Lakers, Davis was the trade package for the mind-boggling move for Luka Dončić. Unfortunately, despite the hefty dreams of general manager Nico Harrison, the plan did not work for the Dallas Mavericks.
Davis’ injury history bogged down his time with the franchise, as he finished with just 29 games logged on the roster. Eventually, as the team got rid of Harrison, they also parted ways with the 10-time All-Star.
Moving to the Wizards, injuries continued to keep him out of action, as he failed to log a single minute on the court for Washington. Given his age and the direction of the franchise, it wasn’t unreasonable to expect that he’d try to find a new home.
The Warriors rumors started almost simultaneously, further helping push that idea. But no move has come to pass yet, and it looks more likely that he’s staying with the Wizards, at least for the time being.
The latest confirmation came from his agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group, himself. As part of his podcast with Max Kellerman, the two broke down some key offseason questions. Among them, he was asked about Davis playing for Washington next season.
His response was direct. “Yes.” When pressed about it, Paul fired back with “Yeah, why wouldn’t he?” Immediately, Kellerman brought up the trade rumors to the Warriors. “Oh, I don’t know anything about that,” his co-host responded, bringing a smirk to the former host of “First Take.”

It remains to be seen how his entire tenure with the Wizards shakes out. But rather than a move to a new team, it looks like Davis is sticking in the nation’s capital for the time being.

With a core that is now bursting with talent and could offer some legitimate intrigue, he has the chance to help usher in a new era for the organization. However, at 32 with a host of injury concerns, he might not be able to enjoy the fruits of his labor to the fullest.
