Tom Brady has finally put an end to a long-standing debate surrounding Bill Belichick and his success in the league. Fans and experts have always been taking sides by discrediting the veteran coach over his credibility to win titles without top quarterbacks, especially when Brady left the New England Patriots for a new NFC team in 2020.
The seven-time Super Bowl champion was speaking on the latest episode of the “New Heights” podcast with Travis and his brother Jason Kelce. Brady dismissed the comparison altogether, calling the entire debate dumb.
Tom Brady Puts an End to the Bill Belichick Debate
Belichick has been part of the NFL for nearly five decades, with his legendary run in New England standing above the rest. While many argued that Brady was the driving force behind the Patriots’ dynasty, the former quarterback sees it very differently.
“I think he’s the greatest head coach in terms of preparing a team to win,” TB12 said of Bill Belichick on Wednesday.
“There was nobody better. It was my privilege to play for him as his quarterback. There’s no coach I’d rather choose, and it’s a dumb analogy. It’s like, what’s more important, the left tackle or the center?” he added.
Brady went on to explain that there’s nobody else who grinds as much from Monday to Friday as the head coach. On Sunday, it’s the quarterback who makes the call since he is the one who throws the ball. That being said, he mentioned that each and every member of the team is equally important for a team’s success.

The debate initially started in 2020 when the quarterback left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and won the title in his first season itself. Meanwhile, on the other hand, Belichick struggled to keep up with the expectations and had only one winning season in that period (2020–2023).
“There’s no way I could have been the player I was without him. I think we pushed each other to get the best out of each other,” Brady said while reflecting on the partnership that helped build the Patriots’ dynasty.
After he and the Patriots mutually parted ways in January 2024, Belichick stayed away from coaching for about a year before being hired by the University of North Carolina in December 2024. Now he leads the ACC program and hopes to transform it into a major powerhouse.
