The Washington Commanders have been one of the biggest rollercoasters in the NFL over the last few seasons. After a downturn last year, the team has to be hoping to pick up where it left off in the NFC Championship Game two seasons ago.
As a result, the offseason has been about finding the right pieces for their roster. But even after a flurry of activity, the team still has a massive hole in the wide receiver room. For one analyst, though, that could pave the way for a veteran to re-establish himself.
Washington Commanders Need Veteran Help
From a four-win team to the NFC Championship Game, their rise was meteoric in Jayden Daniels’ rookie year. Unfortunately, last season turned out to be as bad as 2024 was good. Falling back to earth, injuries plagued the roster all season long, resulting in just five wins.
That signaled their activity this offseason, which included signing the likes of Odafe Oweh, Rachaad White, Leo Chenal, Amik Robertson, Chig Okonkwo, Tim Settle Jr., and K’Lavon Chaisson. However, they failed to bring in a ton of wide receiver help for Daniels.
While they brought back Dyami Brown and signed Van Jefferson, neither of them moves the needle, particularly as the starting WR2. In the draft, too, the focus was on the defensive side of the ball, with the exception of third-round pick Antonio Williams.
But relying on a third-round rookie might not be in the team’s best interest. As a result, Cooper Kleinberg of PFSN pegged them as a landing spot for Tyreek Hill, as he recovers from a dislocated knee and torn ACL.

Kleinberg first brought up the other veteran option that the team was pursuing. “Earlier in the offseason, they were linked to San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, but after his recent controversial comments clashing with Jayden Daniels, a deal now seems unlikely.”
After weeks of making his intention to play for the Commanders apparent, Aiyuk had some weird comments about Daniels and his mother.
As a result, it has possibly put a wrinkle in what seemed like the inevitable next location for the former first-round pick’s career.

“Additionally, they chose not to re-sign Deebo Samuel Sr. after just one season with the franchise,” Kleinberg added. “Behind All-Pro Terry McLaurin, the Commanders’ current receiver group includes Luke McCaffrey, Dyami Brown, Treylon Burks, and third-round rookie Antonio Williams.”
Still, he believes the answer could be extremely easy for the Commanders. “Simply put, there’s not enough proven talent surrounding Daniels heading into his third NFL season. Signing Hill, however, would solve that problem immediately.”
The caveat with signing the former Super Bowl champion, though, comes with his injury. One of the most gruesome blows seen on a football field, it put legitimate risk into what Hill’s career would look like.
A dislocated knee and multiple torn ligaments spelled immediate doom for the speedster, with the Miami Dolphins choosing to release him from the roster. But Kleinberg is counting on the possible upside that he still presents.
“As long as Hill is healthy, he and McLaurin would form one of the league’s most formidable receiving duos while giving Daniels another proven weapon as Washington aims to return to contention in 2026.”
It remains to be seen where Hill ends up going. A reunion with the Kansas City Chiefs has always seemed like it was on the cards. The Commanders swooping in and finding a perfect number two wide receiver would be the best-case scenario for them.
Moreover, after their failure last season, a rejuvenation for the franchise could immediately increase Hill’s value across the league.
