‘He Looks Like A Tight End’ — Trey McBride Makes Feelings Clear On Carson Beck’s Chances Of Becoming Cardinals’ QB1

Tight end Trey McBride delivered his verdict on Carson Beck's chances of winning the Arizona Cardinals' QB1 job in the upcoming season.

Former Miami Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck has hit the ground running during the Arizona Cardinals’ OTAs and minicamps. Due to veteran Jacoby Brissett’s absence during the offseason, Beck has gotten more reps than expected after being selected No. 65 overall by the Cardinals during the 2026 NFL Draft.

Carson Beck Receives Praise From Trey McBride

During a recent appearance on the “Bussin’ With the Boys” podcast, Cardinals tight end Trey McBride lavished praise on Beck’s incredible build and delivered his verdict on the former Georgia Bulldogs star’s chances of winning the team’s QB1 job.

“He’s huge. He looks like a tight end,” McBride said. “I’m like (expletive), bigger than me, you know? But, no, he’s a stud. He throws the ball really well. I think he has a chance to be a really good player in this league. I don’t know about Week 1 unless something crazy happens, but he definitely has a chance to be a guy for sure.”

While veteran Jacoby Brissett was expected to be the Cardinals’ QB1 next season, his contractual standoff with the team has handed Beck a unique opportunity to stamp his mark on the franchise’s QB1 race against Gardner Minshew.

Beck Making Stark Adjustment in Arizona

While speaking to reporters, Beck detailed the adjustments he has had to make from college football to the NFL during the Cardinals’ OTAs and minicamps in the offseason.

“I’d say different from last year at Miami, we didn’t go under center a lot, and obviously, you really have like one or two snap counts,” Beck said. “I think it’s something that’s really cool, just how you can keep the defense off balance. And then at Georgia, I was under center a lot more than I was in Miami.

“So I have had reps at it in the past. And the more reps you get now, the more comfortable you become with it. But it’s not something that has been foreign to me. I think the biggest thing and something that I feel like gets looked over a lot, especially as a quarterback, is doing the simple things in an elite way.”
