NBA free agency is underway, and some deals have already been agreed upon. The rumor mill is churning at a rapid pace, and while many big-name players are taking their sweet time, some teams have been quick to pounce on talent.
One 11-year veteran who’s started nearly half of his 705 career appearances has been generating a lot of interest from contenders from both conferences.

After three seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers, 30-year-old swingman Kelly Oubre Jr. is a free agent. The 6-foot-8 forward started 150 out of his 178 appearances with Philadelphia, but now needs a new home.
According to Yahoo Sports’ Kelly Iko, Oubre intends to meet with the 76ers, Indiana Pacers, Portland Trail Blazers, and Los Angeles Lakers this offseason.

Oubre has averaged double-digit points in nine of his 11 seasons, accomplishing the feat every year beyond his sophomore campaign. He’s coming off another productive year in which he averaged 14.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.4 steals per game across 31.5 minutes a night while shooting a career-best 36.0% from long range.

For interested teams, it’s notable that the 76ers still plan to sit down with Oubre’s camp, suggesting they don’t want to lose him for nothing. Yet, it’s clear they’re facing steep competition for his services.
Oubre’s coming off a two-year, $16.4 million contract with Philadelphia. He had a player option to leave last offseason, but exercised his right to stay, locking him into an $8.4 million salary for the 2025-26 campaign.
Oubre’s offensive production slightly declined this past season, so it’s possible he’s open to accepting a contract in a similar range. However, things tend to get a bit wonky on the open market, so there’s always the chance that he receives an offer too good to refuse.
As for Oubre, he’s surely seeking the best opportunity available. Whether that means securing the biggest paycheck possible, chasing a chance to win his first ring, or pursuing happiness like LeBron James remains to be seen.
While Oubre has played 11 seasons in the NBA, he’s only been on four playoff teams. Each time, his teams have either been eliminated in the first round or in the Eastern Conference semifinals, including his most recent run with Philadelphia.
