As Serena Williams makes her stunning return to women’s singles, one of the last players to defeat her in 2022, Harmony Tan, has claimed that the tennis legend has her blocked on Instagram.
The contest against Tan was Williams’ last match at the All England Club before she accepted a wildcard to compete at the 2026 Championships.
Serena Williams’ Previous Wimbledon Opponent Makes Unexpected Revelation
Harmony Tan faced Williams in a thrilling match in the first round at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. The match went down to the wire, with the Frenchwoman causing a massive upset by winning 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (7).
The win was the biggest result of Tan’s career in what was her first Wimbledon main-draw appearance. The match lasted more than 3 hours, and Tan decided to withdraw from the women’s doubles event, leading her partner, Tamara Korpatsch, to express her frustration at missing out on competing at Wimbledon.
Tan, who reached the fourth round at SW19 before losing to Amanda Anisimova in straight sets, revealed on Tuesday that Williams has her blocked on Instagram. The claim instantly created a buzz among tennis fans on social media.
“So 4 years ago after the handshake, she blocked me also on Instagram, btw,” Tan wrote on her Instagram story along with laughing emojis.

Ranked 200th in the WTA rankings, Tan is still playing tennis at the lower levels of the Tour. She has won 20 of her 32 matches this year but failed to make the main draw of Wimbledon, losing to Tyra Caterina Grant in the final round of qualifying.
Tan has won 13 ITF titles, but her fourth-round run at Wimbledon in 2022 remains her best showing at the Grand Slam level.
Before her qualifying loss at Wimbledon, Tan had expressed her desire to face Williams once again on the big stage.
“She’s a legend, you know? She can come back everywhere. I hope I can qualify and maybe play Serena for the first round,” she said via the WTA Tour.

Meanwhile, Williams announced that she was ‘evolving away’ from tennis after the 2022 US Open but made a spectacular comeback in women’s doubles earlier this month. She accepted a last-minute singles wildcard for the Championships and is facing Maya Joint, who is 24 years her junior, in the first round.
The 23-time singles Grand Slam champion will also be competing in women’s doubles alongside her sister Venus Williams.
