Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding is the talk of the town, with the exact date and plans still the subject of much speculation roughly one week before the festivities.

It’s heavily rumored that Madison Square Garden in New York will host the wedding, but there are rumblings that it may be a multi-day event across several locations. However, new details emerged today explaining that this wasn’t always the case, as the power couple was forced to change their initial plans.

Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce Wedding Was Initially Planned for June 13 at Rhode Island Mansion

The Swift-Kelce wedding was initially supposed to take place at the singer’s Rhode Island mansion. However, a new report from Us Weekly claims security concerns forced the couple to change course.

“Taylor and Travis really wanted their wedding in Rhode Island, and June 13 was the date, but security wouldn’t have worked because it could get out of hand with that kind of scale of an event,” an insider revealed.

The insider added that Swift’s team evaluated multiple venues across the country before deciding New York made the most sense.

“Ocean House was planned at one point, and then plans changed to New York,” the source said.

According to the report, Rhode Island’s layout made it difficult to secure the property as the guest list grew.

“Everything was being planned in Rhode Island,” another source told Us Weekly. “And so many people wanted to come that plans had to change because it became bigger.”

The latest update comes after The New York Times reported that Swift had rented Madison Square Garden for a multi-day celebration around the July 4 holiday weekend. The report said plans currently include an intimate gathering of around 100 guests on July 2, with a much larger celebration of roughly 1,000 attendees reportedly planned for July 3. It’s unclear if the July 2 event is a smaller, more intimate ceremony or if it’s a rehearsal dinner.

The New York Times also reported that Winick Productions filed a permit to use the area surrounding Madison Square Garden. City officials are coordinating with the NYPD over the expected increase in pedestrian traffic.

New York mayor Zohran Mamdani recently dropped some hints about the wedding venue in a press conference on June 15.

“I am fully confident in the work of the NYPD, as well as our state partners, in delivering that safe experience. We are the biggest city in the country,” Mamdani said. “We are used to big events, and we are incredibly excited for the [World Cup]. We know it coincides with the Knicks’ [NBA] Finals run. We know it coincides with July 4, America 250, Taylor Swift’s wedding, all happening at the same time, and we are so excited to welcome the world here.”

Several Kansas City Chiefs players have reportedly reserved hotel rooms near Times Square for the festivities.

There’s also the possibility that the couple could exchange vows privately before the larger Madison Square Garden celebration.
