Lakers Rumors: Insider Reveals 2 Teams Showing Interest In $51,000,000 Forward Ahead Of NBA Free Agency

As Lakers fans await LeBron James' decision, one insider reveals the free agent market for its other frontcourt player is heating up.

The Los Angeles Lakers have a big summer ahead, as they look to re-shape the roster in free agency to compete for an NBA championship. While most of the discussion centers around the future of league icon LeBron James, the Lakers are also assessing the future of another frontcourt player.

NBA Insider Reveals Multiple Teams Interested in Lakers Forward

NBA insider Jake Fischer revealed the latest on the free agent market for Lakers forward Rui Hachimura while reporting on “The Stein Line.”

Fischer wrote, “Brooklyn keeps coming up as a likely suitor, too, for the Lakers’ Rui Hachimura, league sources say. The Nets and Spurs are two teams we’ve heard have interest in adding Hachimura’s services.”

A former Washington Wizards lottery pick, Hachimura just finished his third full season with the Lakers after arriving via mid-season trade in 2023. He shot 51.4% from the field and 44.3% from three during the regular season, but his scoring and shot attempts declined from his first two full seasons in Los Angeles.

The emergence of Austin Reaves likely played a role, as he formed one of the most explosive backcourts in the NBA with franchise player Luka Dončić.

Hachimura took on a starring role in the playoffs with Dončić sidelined for the entire postseason, and Reaves limited by an oblique injury early in the first round.

He averaged 17.5 points per game during the Lakers’ playoff run, while maintaining his efficiency. He shot 54.9% from the field and 56.9% from three, which likely improved his free agent market.

Hachimura is certainly expecting a raise from his previous three-year $51,000,000 contract. Fischer mentions the Brooklyn Nets as a potential suitor, as the organization has cap space and is trying to add more talent.

The Nets were active before the NBA Draft, reportedly acquiring three-time All-Star Julius Randle while trading Nic Claxton.

Hachimura would give one of the worst offensive teams in the NBA a legit floor spacing wing, creating more space for the team’s young guards, whom they didn’t have during the season.

Dynamic scorer Michael Porter Jr. is also on the roster, and signing Hachimura would give the Nets a lot of firepower on the wing. It’s also possible Porter Jr. or Randle would be on the move if Hachimura joins the team.

Fischer also lists the San Antonio Spurs as a potential suitor, as they try to rebound following a tough loss to the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals.

Hachimura would be an upgrade over Harrison Barnes at this stage of their careers. He’d have a similar role on the Spurs to what he had on the Lakers, helping space the floor for the team’s explosive backcourt.

However, he’d also have Victor Wembanyama waiting at the rim to clean up any potential defensive mistakes.

At a minimum, league-wide interest in Hachimura may force the Lakers to offer him a stronger deal.
