‘Best Coaching Staff I’ve Ever Had’ — Deion Sanders Raves About ‘Tremendous’ Assistants at Colorado

Deion Sanders’ journey as head coach of the University of Colorado’s football team has included a lot of fanfare. More than most club leaders, he has had fewer than five wins in two of his three seasons as head coach.

Of course, Sanders also had a nine-win season sandwiched in between his four and three-win seasons at Colorado. His team has been ranked in two of three seasons, but not at all in 2025.

Yet, now there’s reason to believe that things could be looking up for the Buffaloes.

Deion Sanders Excited About ‘Best Coaching Staff’ Yet

Recently, Sanders sat down for a one-on-one interview with Ratings’ DJ Siddiqi, in which he heaped praise on his reshaped coaching staff ahead of the 2026 season.

“I feel like I have the best coaching staff I’ve ever had, coaching college football, coaching high school football, coaching youth football,” Sanders said. “I have a tremendous coaching staff that I’m excited about. Not only that, we have a locker room full of young men, 103 of them at this point, that I feel like not only that they’re good, they’re the type of men that we needed and wanted, and we identified them, located them and brought them in and were able to sign them.”

One method Sanders continues to employ is hiring coaches who once played in the NFL. Yet, his offensive coordinator, Brennan Marion, and defensive coordinator, Chris Marve, never played an NFL down. Still, Sanders has tried to add some of the top instructors from college and high school. Some of whom double as strong recruiters.

“We have a tremendous staff filled with not only former pros but collegiate coaches as well as a couple high school guys that were really good, not only that, they’re really good recruiters,” Sanders said of his coaching staff.

While the college football transfer portal presents unique challenges for coaches like Sanders, they think they’re starting to figure it out.

“What we’re doing right now in recruiting, we change courses instead of targeting a tremendous amount of guys that’s in the portal, because the portal is different now,” he added. “We’re now targeting probably about 20 high school young men, and we’re probably going to bring in our probably largest class since I’ve been a head coach here to Colorado.”

Add it all up, and Sanders believes Colorado is on a strong path. One that could help them have their best season yet. Of course, he’s never been one to lack confidence either.
