For all the attention surrounding the Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini controversy, very little discussion has centered on how this can affect the New England Patriots.
They will open the season against the Seattle Seahawks, and the situation will almost certainly remain part of the conversation.
NFL Analyst Jacob Infante Puts Mike Vrabel in the Hot Seat for the New Season
NFL analyst Jacob Infante believes that because of that, Vrabel enters the year with far less room for mistakes than most coaches.
“My belief is that Vrabel will continue his work in New England,” Infante said to PFSN. “It will remain a stain on his legacy and his perception as a human being, but as long as the Patriots keep winning, he’ll stick around.”
However, Infante also made it clear that success alone may not be enough if the Patriots take a step backward.
“That said, his margin of error will become much more slim. If the Patriots regress to, say, a 9-8 record after making the Super Bowl last season, he’s a goner.”

That warning carries weight because history rarely treats Super Bowl runners-up kindly. In fact, few teams enter a new season under more pressure than one coming off a championship-game defeat.
For example, the Chiefs finished 6-11 in 2025-26 and missed the playoffs. The 49ers posted the same 6-11 record in 2024-25 and also stayed home in January. Before that, the Eagles collapsed late in the 2023-24 campaign, losing six of their final seven games, including an early Wild Card exit.
As a result, many around the league are already anticipating the lingering effect of a Super Bowl loss on a locker room. Reaching the NFL’s biggest stage demands enormous physical effort and emotional investment.

Players and coaches spend months pushing through injuries, pressure, and expectations. Consequently, finding that same level of energy after coming so close to a title can prove extremely difficult.
To make things more difficult, the Patriots face the sixth-hardest schedule in the NFL this season. That marks a sharp contrast from last year, when New England benefited from the league’s third-easiest schedule based on opponents’ combined win percentage.
The Dianna Russini controversy is adding more pressure. If the Patriots stumble even slightly, Vrabel could find himself facing exactly the slim margin of error Infante described.
Can Vrabel and the Patriots pivot from this situation? Franchise icon Rob Gronkowski believes the answer is far less complicated than many think.
“It’s as easy as this: win,” Gronkowski told Fox News. “You come together as a team. You work together; you work your butt off. Everyone has to show that they’re accountable during training camp and the preseason. Once the regular season comes, you gotta win, baby. If you win, it solves all problems. It really does.”
His comments echo the belief held by many around Foxborough that victories can quiet nearly any distraction. Still, whether things unfold that smoothly remains an open question.
Vrabel and the Patriots must navigate a demanding season while dealing with outside scrutiny and elevated expectations. For now, however, Patriots Nation can only focus on what happens inside the building.
