Former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho argues that Angel Reese brings more impact than Caitlin Clark's “sizzling” playmaking.

Emmanuel Acho Calls Angel Reese More Impactful Than Caitlin Clark

In a recent segment on “Speakeasy,” former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho declared that Reese is playing a far superior brand of basketball than the Fever superstar this WNBA season. He pointed out that while Clark brings the ultimate “sizzling” plays, Reese has been showcasing a steadier foundation.

“She (Angel Reese) has impressed more lately than Caitlin Clark,” Acho said. “Caitlin Clark makes more wow plays. If you’re watching with just a naked eye, you’re just like, ‘Oh my god, Caitlin Clark makes many more sizzling plays’… But Angel Reese, I think, is probably more positively impactful.”

Acho highlighted Reese’s recent back-to-back double-doubles, recording 21 points and 11 rebounds in Indiana, followed by 18 points and 8 rebounds at home, as evidence of her elite efficiency. While Clark’s high turnover rates and negative plus-minus ratings are seen as a “cautionary tale.”

“I want the person who’s giving me 20 and 10, double-doubles on average… one on the road, one at home… Give me that person than the person who has seven turnovers and five turnovers, that person is a cautionary tale,” Acho added. “The person who’s a -13 plus or minus and a -19 plus or minus in two games, respectively, that person’s a cautionary tale.”

“So obviously, Caitlin Clark is the more sizzling player, she is the more tantalizing to the eyes player,” Acho continued. “But for whatever you think about Angel Reese… She is playing a quality brand of basketball right now. It is not the most fun to watch. It is not the sexiest brand of basketball. I get it. But the impact she has on the game, it cannot be denied. It can’t.”

This season, the former LSU star forward is currently averaging 15.0 points, league-leading 11.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.3 steals per game, shooting 42.6% from the floor and 10.0% from beyond the arc. She also became the WNBA’s fastest player to reach 1,000 career rebounds.

Meanwhile, despite the shooting troubles, Clark, the former ROTY, is putting up high-efficiency stats, averaging 21.3 points, 8.2 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 0.8 steals per game on 42.6% from the field and 33.1% from deep.

Clark’s statistical brilliance is undeniable, but Reese’s consistent dominance in the paint currently gives her the edge in raw team impact.
