Edge Rusher Von Miller has a Hall of Fame resume. From being a Super Bowl MVP to being a three-time All-Pro to making the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team, Miller has accomplished a lot. So, with his amazing resume, why is he still a free agent?
What Is Von Miller’s NFL Future
Last year, Miller was one of the bright spots on a struggling Commanders team, recording 9 sacks. However, those stats could be misleading for Miller’s efficiency, as he received a D grade and ranked 108th in PFSN’s edge-rusher impact metric. Before joining the Commanders, Miller was a Buffalo Bill, where he only got 14 sacks over three seasons.
Not only is Miller’s efficiency not the best, but he is also 37 years old. However, Miller still wants to play, according to an ESPN piece by Jeff Legwold. When asked about “a possible return to the Denver Broncos, Miller said, “I lobbied, I do lobby, I lobbied publicly, privately, so I lobbied,” Miller said.
“I think there’s no question the type of environment I bring to a locker room, I think there’s no question to the type of environment I bring to a team.”
Miller returning to where he got drafted would be a very cool storyline. Not only would it be nostalgic for many to see Miller in a Broncos uniform, but Denver has one of, if not the best, defenses in the NFL. Last year, the team very well could have made or won the Super Bowl if their quarterback, Bo Nix, had not suffered an injury before the AFC Championship game.

Speaking of the Super Bowl, Miller could join the defending Super Bowl Champs, the Seattle Seahawks. Whose defense got a B+ grade and ranked 3rd in PFSN’s total defensive rankings last season. Cornerback Devon Witherspoon, defensive tackle Byron Murphy II, and safety Nick Emmanwori are some of the stars who helped Seattle win it all. However, one vital piece was edge rusher DeMarcus Lawrence.
Lawrence is in his mid 30’s, yet he still had a great season last year as he had 6 sacks, got a B- grade, and ranked 28th according to PFSN’s edge rush impact metric. So, since Seattle has shown that they get high productivity out of veteran edge rushers, Miller could be a great asset.
Another stop where Miller could be an impactful factor is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Miller could be a good mentor for edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr., whom the Buccaneers drafted in round 1 of the 2026 NFL Draft. Bain Jr. has the potential to be one of the best in the NFL, so Miller could help him get there.
Miller will get to work with a solid defensive head coach in Todd Bowles, whose unit could use all the pass rush help that it could get. Last year, the Buccaneers ranked 19th in the NFL with 17 sacks.

Going from the NFC South to the NFC North, Miller would be a great fit on either the Detroit Lions or the Green Bay Packers. Miller would be playing opposite an amazing edge rusher, whether it be Aidan Hutchinson in Detroit or Micah Parsons in Green Bay. Both the Packers and Lions have a shot to get to the Super Bowl, so Miller could get his third ring in either destination.
In conclusion, there are a lot of destinations that Miller could go to further solidify his Hall of Fame career.
