Browns’ Myles Garrett Trade Offers Major Hint About Giannis Antetokounmpo Talks Since Jimmy Haslam Also Owns Bucks

ESPN's Brian Windhorst explains how Jimmy Haslam's Myles Garrett trade could dictate the return in a Giannis Antetokounmpo deal.

Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam is making money moves once again. According to reports, Haslam, who also owns the Milwaukee Bucks, is said to be trading former NBA champion Giannis Antetokounmpo. Antetokounmpo has expressed interest in going to both the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat.

In the blockbuster trade, the Bucks would receive former NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown from the Celtics, while the package from the Heat would include guard Tyler Herro, forward Jaime Jaquez Jr., and center Kel’el Ware.

How the Myles Garrett Trade Hints at Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Next Move

With talks of Antetokounmpo’s departure from the Bucks, many have begun to compare Haslam’s power move with that of the Browns’ Myles Garrett trade. Garrett was traded earlier this month to the Los Angeles Rams after the defensive end made the request over a year ago.

In a statement, the two-time Defensive Player of the Year cited his reason for leaving was his “desire to win.” In return, the Browns received 2024 first-rounder Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round pick.

So how do both trades connect? ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said recently that Haslam is keen on making “smart” trades.

“I am sure that the Boston Celtics looked at what happened with the Cleveland Browns,” Windhorst stated. “I know that’s a strange sentence, but if you look at what Jimmy Haslam did with the Cleveland Browns, he could’ve traded his franchise player, Myles Garrett, for draft picks only.

“He didn’t do that deal until — he didn’t approve a deal until he got a high-quality player [Jared Verse] in return. I’m sure that the Celtics saw that and took that into account when they made their offer.”

Additionally, according to NBA correspondent Marc Stein on his SiriusXM NBA radio show, Haslam is looking to get a “star player” in Milwaukee if they’re going to give up Antetokounmpo after 13 seasons. Stein added that Haslam is looking for what he calls an “unquestioned star.”

Antetokounmpo has been in trade talks for some time now. The star power forward has expressed his desire to remain in Milwaukee but also his hunger for more championships.

The 31-year-old has spent all 13 seasons of his NBA career in Milwaukee and led the Bucks to a championship in 2021. The Bucks went 32-50 in the 2025-26 season and missed the postseason as Antetokounmpo played in just 36 games due to various injuries.

While Jaylen Brown has not yet commented on the potential trade, Antetokounmpo took to Instagram and X earlier today with a cryptic post stating, “GOD, I trusted you at the beginning, and I will continue to trust you throughout.”

In the post, the background is fading to black with Antetokounmpo in his Bucks uniform. Many speculated under the post that it serves as a sign that Antetokounmpo’s time in Milwaukee is drawing to a close. The Bucks are expected to make their announcement before the NBA Draft.
