The NBA offseason has gotten off to a slow start. While Giannis Antetokounmpo rumors have been swirling and dominating headlines, there have been very few actual trades thus far.
As the 2026 NBA Draft approaches, NBA insider Marc Stein revealed exactly why the trade market has been so quiet… and it has to do with the Antetokounmpo saga dragging out.

NBA Insider Reveals Teams Are Waiting on Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade
On Monday, just one day before the 2026 NBA Draft, NBA insider Marc Stein published an article detailing the latest news in the Antetokounmpo trade saga. In the story, Stein revealed how the situation has impacted the rest of the league.
“Multiple teams we’ve spoken to in recent days have said that other trade business around the league is definitely being held up as we wait to see if Milwaukee decides to make a direct two-team deal and then pursue subsequent trades with players it could theoretically acquire in the first trade — like Miami’s Tyler Herro — or instead proceed by assembling a multi-team construction,” Stein wrote.
“League sources say that rival teams merely waiting to see what actually happens with Miami’s No. 13 overall pick has also led to a good bit of uncertainty. It’s not as pivotal to the draft as, say, what the LA Clippers intend to do with the No. 5 overall selection, but it is a pick in the middle of a stacked first round that could have so many potential ripple effects depending on which team is making it.
“Would the Bucks, for example, try to package No. 10 and No. 13 — if they finally take formal possession of that pick from the Heat — to try to move up in the draft order?”
As Stein noted, several teams are waiting to see what Milwaukee receives in return for the two-time MVP. If Antetokounmpo is dealt to the Miami Heat, the Bucks are expected to receive a package centered around the No. 13 overall pick and All-Star guard Tyler Herro. The Detroit Pistons, who have been linked to Herro, are among the teams closely monitoring the situation.
