Frances Tiafoe has confirmed a clash with compatriot Taylor Fritz in the final of the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle. The Sunday clash marks the second consecutive all-American showdown after Fritz’s title clash with Ben Shelton in Stuttgart last week.
While he fell short at the ATP 250 level, Fritz will be eager to flip the script at the ATP 500 stage. Ahead of the match, both players shared their feelings about their maiden final in Halle.

Tiafoe, who won the Stuttgart title in 2023, is chasing his second grass-court trophy in Halle. The American, who entered the tournament unseeded, beat the likes of Flavio Cobolli, Sho Shimabukuro, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Daniel Altmaier to reach the final.
For Fritz, this marks his seventh grass-court final. He has won five titles on the surface (four times in Eastbourne and once in Stuttgart) but none on the ATP 500 level. The American overcame challenges from Zizou Bergs, Fabian Marozsan, Shelton, and top seed Alexander Zverev to break new ground in Halle.
Ahead of his final against Fritz, Tiafoe insisted he will concentrate solely on his performance. “Focusing on me, obviously. I haven’t played him since the US Open a couple of years ago. And obviously I had that one on my racket.”
Tiafoe hasn’t had a lot of luck against his compatriot despite multiple close encounters. He trails their head-to-head 1-7, his most recent defeat coming in the semifinal of the 2024 US Open, where he led by two sets to one.
“Kind of just focusing on myself on the court. He’s been serving great. So obviously do the basics and keep the scoreboard and take care of my serve and make it tough,” the 28-year-old said in his Halle on-court interview.
“I’ve been playing great against all kind of opponents. It’s a final, man; you’ve got to put it on the line, and may the best man win,” he added.
Taylor Fritz, meanwhile, said he was surprised by the strength of the field at the tournament despite the absence of Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, and Carlos Alcaraz but remained confident in his own level.
“I felt, regardless of the strength of the field, if I’m playing well on grass, I think the strength of the field doesn’t matter as much, and it’s more about just me feeling good,” he said in his on-court interview.
The American overcame a physically hampered Zverev in three tight sets in the semifinal and admitted his opponent’s struggles affected his own rhythm — something he does not expect in the final.
“It’s just going to be such a different match; I’ll need to be a lot more aggressive,” he said. “Tomorrow it’s definitely going to be a lot more free… free with my hitting.”
Fritz has won his last seven matches against Frances Tiafoe, who claimed the first victory in their eight-match rivalry. It remains to be seen whether the latter turns the tables on June 21.
