The New York Rangers had the NHL world in the palm of their hand until Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin reportedly asked for a trade.
Until Larkin’s trade request, Vincent Trocheck was the biggest name on the trade board as a Team USA gold medalist on a team-friendly deal, ready to contribute from the get-go. However, all is not lost just yet, as trade interest is still pretty heavy around Trocheck’s availability.
It appears Trocheck himself is aware he’s a man in demand.
Rangers’ Vincent Trocheck Hires NHL Super Agent
On Wednesday, June 17, NHL insider Darren Dreger reported that Trocheck had switched agents, bringing Pat Brisson on board.
Brisson’s superstar clientele features the biggest names of hockey, including Nathan MacKinnon, John Tavares, Sidney Crosby, Quinn Hughes, Macklin Celebrini, Jack Hughes, Jack Eichel, and Cole Caufield.
Sources say Vincent Trochek has hired Pat Brisson and CAA to represent him moving forward. Trochek was a target of trade speculation heading into the Deadline, so this change will fuel more of that in the days ahead. Lots of teams interested.

One name among those is particularly important. Quinn Hughes managed to get the trade he wanted, after a year of playing will he or won’t he extend. That experience, among others, could play a critical role as Trocheck navigates these trade waters.
The veteran center was scratched for roster management purposes towards the trade deadline as the Rangers anticipated interest from contenders. Instead, they stayed put, hoping for a meatier trade package this summer with the salary cap rising to $104 million.
The appeal for Trocheck is easy to understand. Several teams need help down the middle, and the Rangers veteran is a pretty handy penalty killer, along with a solid faceoff man. He can handle heavy minutes and knows what it takes to win, as evidenced by his gold medal with Team USA.
His contract has three years left at a modest cap hit of $5.625 million per season, which explains the bevy of suitors already lining up.
Trocheck will be 33 years old next summer, which means this is the optimal time for the Rangers to sell high. Per multiple reports, general manager Chris Drury is demanding a package featuring a young player ready to contribute right away, along with picks and/or prospects.

That asking price will likely come down a smidge, now that the market for centers also features Dylan Larkin. In any case, the expectation around the league is that the Trocheck story will be resolved sooner rather than later.
So far, the Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild, Carolina Hurricanes, and Montreal Canadiens have all been credited with an interest.
Montreal GM Kent Hughes is rumored to have checked in on Trocheck prior to the trade deadline, though that discussion didn’t exactly go too far. While it’s unlikely the Habs revisit their interest this summer, Trocheck’s market is expected to be pretty robust regardless, though we may have to wait for Larkin to be traded to get a comparable package for the Rangers veteran.
