‘No One Wants to See Those’ — Drake Throws Shade at $244,623,120 NBA Superstar

While promoting Kevin Durant's latest sneakers in a Nike commercial, Drake fired a friendly shot at Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards.

In addition to being one of the most popular musicians nowadays and really, ever, Drake is also one of the most high-profile NBA fans. He’s friends with many players and he has served as the Toronto Raptors’ global ambassador for more than a decade.

He’s also no stranger to trash talk, and his newest target is Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards.

Drake Takes Friendly Shot at Anthony Edwards in Kevin Durant’s New Nike Commercial

Drake is featured in Nike’s newest commercial for Kevin Durant’s new shoes, the Nike KD 19s. While hyping the purple colorway of Durant’s sneaker, Drake fires a shot at Edwards and adidas.

After saying this is the best colorway he’s ever seen in his entire life, Drake sarcastically asks, “‘Hey Ant-Man, can you drop your purple shoes?’ said four kids in Minnesota. Like, no one wants to see those. They want the KDs!”

Like Durant, Drake has an endorsement deal with Nike, and he has rapped about the brand in several of his songs over the years. Edwards has a shoe deal with adidas in addition to his five-year, $244,623,120 contract with the Timberwolves.

Even in his late 30s, Durant remains one of the NBA’s most popular players, which is why his shoes are still among the league’s best-sellers. Edwards has also become one of the league’s most popular players since he became the No. 1 overall pick in 2020, so his shoes have also gained some traction.

Edwards has also gained a reputation for being one of the NBA’s premier trash-talkers, so it will be interesting to see if he responds to Drake’s playful jab. As the old saying goes, if you can dish it out, you can take it.

For the record, Durant and Edwards are buddies, so it’s not like this is anything personal. Edwards has said that Durant is his “favorite player of all-time,” and they developed a friendship in recent years after playing together on Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Edwards’ Timberwolves swept Durant when he was with the Phoenix Suns in 2024, but there’s no bad blood between the two.

Still, don’t be surprised if Edwards and adidas fire back at both Durant, Drake, and Nike in the near future.
