Over the course of the offseason, there were some rumors about Cam Jordan either retiring or playing for a new team, but the veteran edge rusher has decided to return to the New Orleans Saints.
He is back on a one-year deal, in what will be his final season in the league. Jordan’s return to the Saints drew plenty of reactions on social media from the NFL world.
NFL World Is Hyped About Cam Jordan’s Return to the Saints
Jordan returns to a Saints team that had some steam at the end of last season. They won 4 of their last 5 games. During this stretch, Saints quarterback Tyler Shough threw for 5 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Shough overall had a great rookie season, demonstrating solid accuracy and the ability to make tight window throws.
This year, the Saints drafted Arizona State wideout Jordyn Tyson, an excellent, smooth route runner who can be an explosive threat after the catch. Last year, Tyson got a B- grade and ranked 24th overall according to PFSN’s CFB WR Impact Metric.
Tyson, during his rookie year, will get to play alongside Chris Olave, who has already established himself as a top wideout in the league.
So, how should Saints fans expect Jordan to perform? As Pro Football Network’s account on X wrote, “Cam Jordan is 36 years old, but he’s coming off a season with 10.5 sacks and 15 tackles for loss.” While 10.5 sacks is a great number, it is a bit misleading. According to PFSN’s Edge Rusher Impact Metric, Jordan received a C- and ranked 75th.”

However, despite the lowish grade and rank, many Saints fans are pleased to have Jordan back. “I’m so happy about this. I could not see him anywhere else”, wrote Farrah Yvette on X.

Jonathan Barnes expressed how important it was for him and other Saints fans to see Jordan playing his final season in the league in New Orleans. “Who cares about salary cap or what rotational player he might take snaps from,” he wrote. “How can any Saints fan not want Cam Jordan’s final season to not be in anything but black and gold?!”
Those who are not happy, though, are those who thought that Jordan might play for their teams. “Cross him off the list, Bears fans,” said the Bleacher Nation Bears account on X. The Bears do need a pass rusher, as last season they had 35 sacks as a team, which ranked 22nd in the league.

The team that ranked first for sacks last year, the Denver Broncos, could have been a destination for Jordan. Broncos head coach Sean Payton’s many years in New Orleans could have led to a reunion with the veteran edge rusher.
However, as Broncos beat reporter Zac Stevens said on X, “Cam Jordan won’t be a Bronco. He’s re-signing with the Saints.”

After Jordan hangs it up, he could still be involved in football. Jonathan Jones, who is the lead NFL Insider for NFL on CBS, said, “One last ride for Cam Jordan, who will have a great media career in his post playing days too.”

NFL Insider and Writer, John Frascella, highlighted the significance of Jordan’s return as he said, “Once a Saint, always a Saint… Cam Jordan’s heart was always in New Orleans.”
Overall, wherever Jordan had gone, he would have made an impact, but playing his 16th and final NFL season with the Saints will be much better than signing with another team. Hopefully, the Saints will be able to make the playoffs this season and give their legend a good farewell.
