Oilers News and Rumors: Edmonton Learns Asking Price For $65M Trade Target Jordan Kyrou

The Oilers have learned the asking price for Jordan Kyrou, but cap challenges and competition could complicate any trade pursuit.

The Edmonton Oilers enter the offseason facing major questions after a disappointing exit from the 2026 NHL Playoffs. With pressure mounting to maximize Connor McDavid’s championship window, general manager Stan Bowman is expected to explore significant roster changes.

One player who has emerged as a potential target is Jordan Kyrou, and Edmonton has reportedly learned what it could take to acquire the St. Louis Blues forward.

Blues Winger Jordan Kyrou’s Price Revealed as Oilers Keep Tabs

Kyrou, who has five years remaining on his eight-year, $65 million contract, has become one of the NHL’s most talked-about trade candidates this summer.

The 28-year-old is coming off a difficult 2025-26 campaign, finishing with 18 goals and 46 points in 72 games. He even found himself scratched at times, leading many around the league to believe a change of scenery could benefit both the player and the Blues.

Trade speculation has only intensified with longtime Blues GM Doug Armstrong preparing to hand over the role to Alexander Steen on July 1. As St. Louis continues building around a younger core, Kyrou’s future remains uncertain.

According to a former NHL executive, the asking price on any Kyrou trade would be substantial. “I think [Robert] Thomas can get you the equivalent of two first-round picks. I think Kyrou could get close to that, too,” the anonymous executive noted.

That means Edmonton would likely need to part with a combination of premium draft picks, top prospects such as Quinn Hutson, or young NHL-ready talent to get a deal done.

From the Oilers’ perspective, the appeal is obvious. Kyrou’s speed, skill, and offensive upside could provide valuable scoring support behind Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl while strengthening Edmonton’s top-six forward group.

However, the Oilers may not be the only team with interest.

According to insider David Pagnotta, the New York Islanders are also looking to add more speed to their forward corps. A pairing of Kyrou and Mathew Barzal could give the Islanders another dangerous offensive threat while helping improve their transition game, making them a potential competitor in any trade discussions.

The challenge, however, is making the finances work.

Edmonton remains tight against the salary cap and still has important contract decisions ahead. Adding Kyrou’s $8.125 million cap hit would almost certainly require the Oilers to move significant salary in return, whether through a major contract or multiple roster pieces.

Kyrou also owns a full no-trade clause. While there has been speculation that he could be willing to waive it for a Stanley Cup contender like Edmonton, any move would still require his approval.

In the end, Kyrou represents a classic high-risk, high-reward target. He could give the Oilers another dynamic offensive weapon, but the combination of a hefty trade package and a sizable cap hit makes any potential deal difficult to pull off. For Stan Bowman, landing the $65 million winger would be one of the biggest challenges of the offseason.
